      <verse number='1'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, when he had made an <strongs number="3615">end</strongs>of <strongs number="1696">speaking</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, that the <strongs number="5315">soul</strongs>of <strongs number="3083">Jonathan</strongs>was <strongs number="7194">knit</strongs>with the <strongs number="5315">soul</strongs>of <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, and <strongs number="3083">Jonathan</strongs><strongs number="157">loved</strongs>him as his own <strongs number="5315">soul</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='2'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs>him <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>, and would <strongs number="5414">let</strongs>him go no more <strongs number="7725 3808">home</strongs>to his <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>Then <strongs number="3083">Jonathan</strongs>and <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="3772">made</strongs>a <strongs number="1285">covenant</strongs>, because he <strongs number="157">loved</strongs>him as his own <strongs number="5315">soul</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='10'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>on the <strongs number="4480 4283">morrow</strongs>, that the <strongs number="7451">evil</strongs><strongs number="7307">spirit</strongs>from <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="6743">came</strongs><strongs number="413">upon</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, and he <strongs number="5012">prophesied</strongs>in the <strongs number="8432">midst</strongs>of the <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>: and <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="5059">played</strongs>with his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>, as at other <strongs number="3117 3117">times</strongs>: and <em> there </em><em> was </em>a <strongs number="2595">javelin</strongs>in <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>'s <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>. </verse>

And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="5437">avoided</strongs>out of his <strongs number="4480 6440">presence</strongs><strongs number="6471">twice</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='12'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>was <strongs number="3372">afraid</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">of</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="1961">was</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him, and was <strongs number="5493">departed</strongs><strongs number="4480 5973">from</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='13'>Therefore <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="5493">removed</strongs>him <strongs number="4480 5973">from</strongs>him, and <strongs number="7760">made</strongs>him his <strongs number="8269">captain</strongs>over a <strongs number="505">thousand</strongs>; and he went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>and came <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='14'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>behaved himself <strongs number="7919">wisely</strongs>in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>his <strongs number="1870">ways</strongs>; and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>Wherefore when <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><strongs number="1931">he</strongs>behaved himself very <strongs number="7919 3966">wisely</strongs>, he was <strongs number="1481">afraid</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">of</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>But <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>and <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="157">loved</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs><strongs number="1931">he</strongs>went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>and came <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <strongs number="2009">Behold</strongs>my <strongs number="1419">elder</strongs><strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs><strongs number="4764">Merab</strongs>, her will I <strongs number="5414">give</strongs>thee to <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>: <strongs number="389">only</strongs><strongs number="1961">be</strongs>thou <strongs number="1121 2428">valiant</strongs>for me, and <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>'s <strongs number="4421">battles</strongs>.       <verse number='18'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, <strongs number="4310">Who</strongs><em> am </em><strongs number="595">I</strongs>? and <strongs number="4310">what</strongs><em> is </em>my <strongs number="2416">life</strongs>, <em> or </em>my <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="4940">family</strongs>in <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs>I should <strongs number="1961">be</strongs><strongs number="2860">son</strongs>-in-law to the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='19'>But it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>at the <strongs number="6256">time</strongs>when <strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="4764">Merab</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>'s <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>should have been <strongs number="5414">given</strongs>to <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, that <strongs number="1931">she</strongs>was <strongs number="5414">given</strongs>unto <strongs number="5741">Adriel</strongs>the <strongs number="4259">Meholathite</strongs>to <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='20'>And <strongs number="4324">Michal</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>'s <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs><strongs number="157">loved</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>: and they <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, and the <strongs number="1697">thing</strongs><strongs number="3474 5869">pleased</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='21'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, I will <strongs number="5414">give</strongs>him her, that she may <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>a <strongs number="4170">snare</strongs>to him, and that the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of the <strongs number="6430">Philistines</strongs>may <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>against him. Wherefore <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, Thou shalt this <strongs number="3117">day</strongs>be my <strongs number="2860">son</strongs>-in-law in <em> the </em><em> one </em><em> of </em>the <strongs number="8147">twain</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='22'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="6680">commanded</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>, <em> saying </em>, <strongs number="1696">Commune</strongs><strongs number="413">with</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="3909">secretly</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">say</strongs>, <strongs number="2009">Behold</strongs>, the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>hath <strongs number="2654">delight</strongs>in thee, and <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>his <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs><strongs number="157">love</strongs>thee: <strongs number="6258">now</strongs>therefore be the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="2860">son</strongs>-in-law. </verse>

And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="5869">Seemeth</strongs>it to you <em> a </em><strongs number="7043">light</strongs><em> thing </em>to be a <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="2860">son</strongs>-in-law, seeing that <strongs number="595">I</strongs><em> am </em>a <strongs number="7326">poor</strongs><strongs number="376">man</strongs>, and lightly <strongs number="7034">esteemed</strongs>? </verse>

      <verse number='25'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="3541">Thus</strongs>shall ye <strongs number="559">say</strongs>to <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, The <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="2656">desireth</strongs><strongs number="369">not</strongs>any <strongs number="4119">dowry</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">but</strongs>a <strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="6190">foreskins</strongs>of the <strongs number="6430">Philistines</strongs>, to be <strongs number="5358">avenged</strongs>of the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="341">enemies</strongs>.
