      <verse number='21'>And <strongs number="3147">Jotham</strongs>ran <strongs number="5127">away</strongs>, and <strongs number="1272">fled</strongs>, and <strongs number="1980">went</strongs>to <strongs number="876">Beer</strongs>, and <strongs number="3427">dwelt</strongs><strongs number="8033">there</strongs>, for <strongs number="4480 6440">fear</strongs>of <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>his <strongs number="251">brother</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='22'>When <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>had <strongs number="7786">reigned</strongs><strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="8141">years</strongs><strongs number="5921">over</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='23'>Then <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>an <strongs number="7451">evil</strongs><strongs number="7307">spirit</strongs><strongs number="996">between</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>and the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>; and the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>dealt <strongs number="898">treacherously</strongs>with <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>: </verse>
      <verse number='24'>That the <strongs number="2555">cruelty</strongs><em> done </em>to the threescore and <strongs number="7657">ten</strongs><strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>of <strongs number="3378">Jerubbaal</strongs>might <strongs number="935">come</strongs>, and their <strongs number="1818">blood</strongs>be <strongs number="7760">laid</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>their <strongs number="251">brother</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs><strongs number="2026">slew</strongs>them; and <strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs><strongs number="2388 *853 3027">aided</strongs>him in the <strongs number="2026">killing</strongs>of <strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='38'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="2083">Zebul</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="346">Where</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="645">now</strongs>thy <strongs number="6310">mouth</strongs>, <strongs number="834">wherewith</strongs>thou <strongs number="559">saidst</strongs>, <strongs number="4310">Who</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs>we should <strongs number="5647">serve</strongs>him? <em> is </em><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs>thou hast <strongs number="3988">despised</strongs>? go <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>, I <strongs number="4994">pray</strongs><strongs number="6258">now</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>with them. </verse>
      <verse number='39'>And <strongs number="1603">Gaal</strongs>went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fought</strongs>with <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='40'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="7291">chased</strongs>him, and he <strongs number="5127">fled</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>him, and <strongs number="7227">many</strongs>were <strongs number="5307">overthrown</strongs><em> and </em><strongs number="2491">wounded</strongs>, <em> even </em><strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="6607">entering</strongs>of the <strongs number="8179">gate</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='41'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="3427">dwelt</strongs>at <strongs number="725">Arumah</strongs>: and <strongs number="2083">Zebul</strongs>thrust <strongs number="1644">out</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1603">Gaal</strongs>and his <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>, that they should not <strongs number="4480 3427">dwell</strongs>in <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='42'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>on the <strongs number="4480 4283">morrow</strongs>, that the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>into the <strongs number="7704">field</strongs>; and they <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='43'>And he <strongs number="3947">took</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>, and <strongs number="2673">divided</strongs>them into <strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="7218">companies</strongs>, and laid <strongs number="693">wait</strongs>in the <strongs number="7704">field</strongs>, and <strongs number="7200">looked</strongs>, and, <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><em> were </em>come <strongs number="3318">forth</strongs>out <strongs number="4480">of</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>; and he rose <strongs number="6965">up</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>them, and <strongs number="5221">smote</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='44'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>, and the <strongs number="7218">company</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him, rushed <strongs number="6584">forward</strongs>, and <strongs number="5975">stood</strongs>in the <strongs number="6607">entering</strongs>of the <strongs number="8179">gate</strongs>of the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>: and the <strongs number="8147">two</strongs><em> other </em><strongs number="7218">companies</strongs><strongs number="6584">ran</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs><em> the </em><em> people </em><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em>in the <strongs number="7704">fields</strongs>, and <strongs number="5221">slew</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='45'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="3898">fought</strongs>against the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>; and he <strongs number="3920">took</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="2026">slew</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> was </em>therein, and beat <strongs number="5422">down</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="2232">sowed</strongs>it with <strongs number="4417">salt</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='46'>And when <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs><strongs number="8085">heard</strongs><em> that </em>, they <strongs number="935">entered</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>a <strongs number="6877">hold</strongs>of the <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>of the <strongs number="410">god</strongs><strongs number="1286">Berith</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='47'>And it was <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="1167">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>were gathered <strongs number="6908">together</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='48'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>got him <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>to <strongs number="2022">mount</strongs><strongs number="6756">Zalmon</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">he</strongs>and <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="854">with</strongs>him; and <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>an <strongs number="7134">axe</strongs>in his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>, and cut <strongs number="3772">down</strongs>a <strongs number="7754">bough</strongs>from the <strongs number="6086">trees</strongs>, and <strongs number="5375">took</strongs>it, and <strongs number="7760">laid</strongs><em> it </em><strongs number="5921">on</strongs>his <strongs number="7926">shoulder</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him, <strongs number="4100">What</strongs>ye have <strongs number="7200">seen</strongs>me <strongs number="6213">do</strongs>, make <strongs number="4116">haste</strongs>, <em> and </em><strongs number="6213">do</strongs>as <strongs number="3644">I</strongs><em> have </em><em> done </em>. </verse>
      <verse number='49'>And <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="1571">likewise</strongs>cut <strongs number="3772">down</strongs>every <strongs number="376">man</strongs>his <strongs number="7754">bough</strongs>, and <strongs number="1980 310">followed</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>, and <strongs number="7760">put</strongs><em> them </em><strongs number="5921">to</strongs>the <strongs number="6877">hold</strongs>, and <strongs number="3341">set</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="6877">hold</strongs>on <strongs number="784">fire</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>them; so that <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs><strongs number="4191">died</strongs><strongs number="1571">also</strongs>, about a <strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>and <strongs number="802">women</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='50'>Then <strongs number="1980">went</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="8405">Thebez</strongs>, and <strongs number="2583">encamped</strongs>against <strongs number="8405">Thebez</strongs>, and <strongs number="3920">took</strongs>it. </verse>
      <verse number='51'>But there <strongs number="1961">was</strongs>a <strongs number="5797">strong</strongs><strongs number="4026">tower</strongs><strongs number="8432">within</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="8033">thither</strongs><strongs number="5127">fled</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>and <strongs number="802">women</strongs>, and <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="1167">they</strongs>of the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="5462">shut</strongs><em> it </em><strongs number="1157">to</strongs>them, and got them <strongs number="5927">up</strongs><strongs number="5921">to</strongs>the <strongs number="1406">top</strongs>of the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='52'>And <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fought</strongs>against it, and went <strongs number="5066">hard</strongs><strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="6607">door</strongs>of the <strongs number="4026">tower</strongs>to <strongs number="8313">burn</strongs>it with <strongs number="784">fire</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='53'>And a <strongs number="259">certain</strongs><strongs number="802">woman</strongs><strongs number="7993">cast</strongs>a <strongs number="6400">piece</strongs>of a <strongs number="7393">millstone</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>'s <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>, and all to <strongs number="7533">broke</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="1538">skull</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='54'>Then he <strongs number="7121">called</strongs><strongs number="4120">hastily</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the young <strongs number="5288">man</strongs>his <strongs number="5375 3627">armorbearer</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto him, <strongs number="8025">Draw</strongs>thy <strongs number="2719">sword</strongs>, and <strongs number="4191">slay</strongs>me, <strongs number="6435">that</strongs>men <strongs number="559">say</strongs>not of me, A <strongs number="802">woman</strongs><strongs number="2026">slew</strongs>him. And his young <strongs number="5288">man</strongs>thrust him <strongs number="1856">through</strongs>, and he <strongs number="4191">died</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='55'>And when the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>was <strongs number="4191">dead</strongs>, they <strongs number="1980">departed</strongs>every <strongs number="376">man</strongs>unto his <strongs number="4725">place</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='56'>Thus <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="7725">rendered</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="7451">wickedness</strongs>of <strongs number="40">Abimelech</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs>he <strongs number="6213">did</strongs>unto his <strongs number="1">father</strongs>, in <strongs number="2026">slaying</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="7657">seventy</strongs><strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>: </verse>
      <verse number='57'>And <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="7451">evil</strongs>of the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of <strongs number="7927">Shechem</strongs>did <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="7725">render</strongs>upon their <strongs number="7218">heads</strongs>: and <strongs number="413">upon</strongs>them <strongs number="935">came</strongs>the <strongs number="7045">curse</strongs>of <strongs number="3147">Jotham</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>of <strongs number="3378">Jerubbaal</strongs>. </verse>
