      <verse number='2'>And <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>'s <strongs number="802">wife</strongs><strongs number="3205">bore</strongs>him <strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>; and his <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>'s <strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>grew <strongs number="1431">up</strongs>, and they thrust <strongs number="1644">out</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto him, Thou shalt <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="5157">inherit</strongs>in our <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>; <strongs number="3588">for</strongs><strongs number="859">thou</strongs><em> art </em>the <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>of a <strongs number="312">strange</strongs><strongs number="802">woman</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>Then <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="1272">fled</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">from</strongs>his <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>, and <strongs number="3427">dwelt</strongs>in the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="2897">Tob</strongs>: and there were <strongs number="3950">gathered</strongs><strongs number="7386">vain</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, and went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='4'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>in process of <strongs number="4480 3117">time</strongs>, that the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>made <strongs number="3898">war</strongs><strongs number="5973">against</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'>And it <strongs number="1961">was</strongs>so, that <strongs number="834">when</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>made <strongs number="3898">war</strongs><strongs number="5973">against</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, the <strongs number="2205">elders</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs><strongs number="1980">went</strongs>to <strongs number="3947">fetch</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>out of the <strongs number="4480 776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="2897">Tob</strongs>: </verse>
      <verse number='6'>And they <strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, <strongs number="1980">Come</strongs>, and <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>our <strongs number="7101">captain</strongs>, that we may <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>with the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto the <strongs number="2205">elders</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>, Did <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="859">ye</strongs><strongs number="8130">hate</strongs>me, and <strongs number="1644">expel</strongs>me out of my <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="4480 1004">house</strongs>? and <strongs number="4069">why</strongs>are ye <strongs number="935">come</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>me <strongs number="6258">now</strongs><strongs number="834">when</strongs>ye are in <strongs number="6862">distress</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='8'>And the <strongs number="2205">elders</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, <strongs number="3651">Therefore</strongs>we turn <strongs number="7725">again</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>thee <strongs number="6258">now</strongs>, that thou mayest <strongs number="1980">go</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>us, and <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>against the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>, and <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>our <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>over <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="3427">inhabitants</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='9'>And <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="2205">elders</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>, <strongs number="518">If</strongs><strongs number="859">ye</strongs>bring me home <strongs number="7725 *853">again</strongs>to <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>against the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>, and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="5414">deliver</strongs>them <strongs number="6440">before</strongs>me, shall <strongs number="595">I</strongs><strongs number="1961">be</strongs>your <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='10'>And the <strongs number="2205">elders</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, The <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="1961">be</strongs><strongs number="8085">witness</strongs><strongs number="996">between</strongs>us, <strongs number="518">if</strongs>we <strongs number="6213">do</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="3651">so</strongs>according to thy <strongs number="1697">words</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='17'>Then <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="4397">messengers</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="123">Edom</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, Let me, I pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, <strongs number="5674">pass</strongs>through thy <strongs number="776">land</strongs>: but the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="123">Edom</strongs>would <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="8085">hearken</strongs><em> thereto </em>. And in like <strongs number="1571">manner</strongs>they <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>: but he <strongs number="14">would</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><em> consent </em>: and <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="3427">abode</strongs>in <strongs number="6946">Kadesh</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='18'>Then they went <strongs number="1980">along</strongs>through the <strongs number="4057">wilderness</strongs>, and <strongs number="5437">compassed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="123">Edom</strongs>, and the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>, and <strongs number="935">came</strongs>by the east <strongs number="4480 4217 8121">side</strongs>of the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>, and <strongs number="2583">pitched</strongs>on the other <strongs number="5676">side</strongs>of <strongs number="769">Arnon</strongs>, but <strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs>within the <strongs number="1366">border</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs><strongs number="769">Arnon</strongs><em> was </em>the <strongs number="1366">border</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='19'>And <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="4397">messengers</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="5511">Sihon</strongs><strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of the <strongs number="567">Amorites</strongs>, the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="2809">Heshbon</strongs>; and <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto him, Let us <strongs number="5674">pass</strongs>, we pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, through thy <strongs number="776">land</strongs><strongs number="5704">into</strongs>my <strongs number="4725">place</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='20'>But <strongs number="5511">Sihon</strongs><strongs number="539">trusted</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>to <strongs number="5674">pass</strongs>through his <strongs number="1366">coast</strongs>: but <strongs number="5511">Sihon</strongs>gathered all his people <strongs number="622 *853 3605 5971">together</strongs>, and <strongs number="2583">pitched</strongs>in <strongs number="3096">Jahaz</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fought</strongs><strongs number="5973">against</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='21'>And the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="430">God</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="5414">delivered</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="5511">Sihon</strongs>and <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>his <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>into the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and they <strongs number="5221">smote</strongs>them: so <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="3423">possessed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of the <strongs number="567">Amorites</strongs>, the <strongs number="3427">inhabitants</strongs>of <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="776">country</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='22'>And they <strongs number="3423">possessed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="1366">coasts</strongs>of the <strongs number="567">Amorites</strongs>, from <strongs number="4480 769">Arnon</strongs>even <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="2999">Jabbok</strongs>, and <strongs number="4480">from</strongs>the <strongs number="4057">wilderness</strongs>even <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="3383">Jordan</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='23'>So <strongs number="6258">now</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="430">God</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>hath <strongs number="3423">dispossessed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="567">Amorites</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>his <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and shouldest <strongs number="859">thou</strongs><strongs number="3423">possess</strongs>it? </verse>
      <verse number='24'>Wilt <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>thou <strongs number="3423">possess</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>that <strongs number="834">which</strongs><strongs number="3645">Chemosh</strongs>thy <strongs number="430">god</strongs>giveth thee to <strongs number="3423">possess</strongs>? So <strongs number="3605 834">whomsoever</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>our <strongs number="430">God</strongs>shall drive <strongs number="3423">out</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>us, them will we <strongs number="3423">possess</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='25'>And <strongs number="6258">now</strongs><em> art </em><strongs number="859">thou</strongs>any thing <strongs number="2896 2896">better</strongs>than <strongs number="4480 1111">Balak</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>of <strongs number="6834">Zippor</strongs>, <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="4124">Moab</strongs>? did he ever <strongs number="7378 7378">strive</strongs><strongs number="5973">against</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, <strongs number="518">or</strongs>did he ever <strongs number="3898 3898">fight</strongs>against them, </verse>
      <verse number='26'>While <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="3427">dwelt</strongs>in <strongs number="2809">Heshbon</strongs>and her <strongs number="1323">towns</strongs>, and in <strongs number="6177">Aroer</strongs>and her <strongs number="1323">towns</strongs>, and in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">cities</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> be </em>along <strongs number="5921">by</strongs>the <strongs number="3027">coasts</strongs>of <strongs number="769">Arnon</strongs>, <strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="8141">years</strongs>? <strongs number="4069">why</strongs>therefore did ye <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="5337">recover</strongs><em> them </em>within <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="6256">time</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='27'>Wherefore <strongs number="595">I</strongs>have <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="2398">sinned</strongs>against thee, but <strongs number="859">thou</strongs><strongs number="6213">doest</strongs>me <strongs number="7451">wrong</strongs>to <strongs number="3898">war</strongs>against me: the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>the <strongs number="8199">Judge</strongs>be <strongs number="8199">judge</strongs>this <strongs number="3117">day</strongs><strongs number="996">between</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>and the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='28'>Howbeit the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="8085">hearkened</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="1697">words</strongs>of <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs>he <strongs number="7971 413">sent</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='29'>Then the <strongs number="7307">Spirit</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="1961">came</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>, and he passed <strongs number="5674">over</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>, and <strongs number="4519">Manasseh</strongs>, and passed <strongs number="5674">over</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="4708">Mizpeh</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>, and from <strongs number="4480 4708">Mizpeh</strongs>of <strongs number="1568">Gilead</strongs>he passed <strongs number="5674">over</strongs><em> unto </em>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='30'>And <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="5087">vowed</strongs>a <strongs number="5088">vow</strongs>unto the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="518">If</strongs>thou shalt without fail <strongs number="5414 5414">deliver</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>into mine <strongs number="3027">hands</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='31'>Then it shall <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>, that <strongs number="834">whatsoever</strongs>cometh <strongs number="3318">forth</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 1817">doors</strongs>of my <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs>me, when I <strongs number="7725">return</strongs>in <strongs number="7965">peace</strongs>from the <strongs number="4480 1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>, shall surely <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>'s, and I will offer it <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>for a burnt <strongs number="5930">offering</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='32'>So <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs>passed <strongs number="5674">over</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>to <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>against them; and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="5414">delivered</strongs>them into his <strongs number="3027">hands</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='33'>And he <strongs number="5221">smote</strongs>them from <strongs number="4480 6177">Aroer</strongs>, even <strongs number="5704">till</strongs>thou <strongs number="935">come</strongs>to <strongs number="4511">Minnith</strongs>, <em> even </em><strongs number="6242">twenty</strongs><strongs number="5892">cities</strongs>, and <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="58">plain</strongs>of the <strongs number="3754">vineyards</strongs>, with a <strongs number="3966">very</strongs><strongs number="1419">great</strongs><strongs number="4347">slaughter</strongs>. Thus the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>were <strongs number="3665">subdued</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='34'>And <strongs number="3316">Jephthah</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs>to <strongs number="4709">Mizpeh</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>his <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>, and, <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, his <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>came <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs>him with <strongs number="8596">timbrels</strongs>and with <strongs number="4246">dances</strongs>: and <strongs number="1931">she</strongs><em> was </em><em> his </em>only <strongs number="3173">child</strongs>; <strongs number="4480">beside</strongs>her he had <strongs number="369">neither</strongs><strongs number="1121">son</strongs><strongs number="176">nor</strongs><strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='35'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, when he <strongs number="7200">saw</strongs>her, that he <strongs number="7167">rent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="899">clothes</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="162">Alas</strongs>, my <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>! thou hast brought me very <strongs number="3766 3766">low</strongs>, and <strongs number="859">thou</strongs><strongs number="1961">art</strongs>one of them that <strongs number="5916">trouble</strongs>me: for <strongs number="595">I</strongs>have <strongs number="6475">opened</strongs>my <strongs number="6310">mouth</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and I <strongs number="3808 3201">cannot</strongs>go <strongs number="7725">back</strongs>. </verse>
