      <verse number='1'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, when <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>and his <strongs number="376">men</strongs>were <strongs number="935">come</strongs>to <strongs number="6860">Ziklag</strongs>on the <strongs number="7992">third</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>, that the <strongs number="6003">Amalekites</strongs>had <strongs number="6584 413">invaded</strongs>the <strongs number="5045">south</strongs>, and <strongs number="6860">Ziklag</strongs>, and <strongs number="5221">smitten</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="6860">Ziklag</strongs>, and <strongs number="8313">burned</strongs>it with <strongs number="784">fire</strongs>; </verse>
      <verse number='2'>And had taken the women <strongs number="7617 *853 802">captives</strongs>, <strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em>therein: they <strongs number="4191">slew</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="376">any</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">either</strongs><strongs number="1419">great</strongs>or <strongs number="4480 6996">small</strongs>, but carried <em> them </em><strongs number="5090">away</strongs>, and <strongs number="1980">went</strongs>on their <strongs number="1870">way</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>So <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>and his <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and, <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, <em> it </em><em> was </em><strongs number="8313">burned</strongs>with <strongs number="784">fire</strongs>; and their <strongs number="802">wives</strongs>, and their <strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>, and their <strongs number="1323">daughters</strongs>, were taken <strongs number="7617">captives</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='4'>Then <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>and the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="854">with</strongs>him lifted <strongs number="5375">up</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>their <strongs number="6963">voice</strongs>and <strongs number="1058">wept</strongs>, <strongs number="5704 834">until</strongs>they had no <strongs number="369">more</strongs><strongs number="3581">power</strongs>to <strongs number="1058">weep</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='6'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>was <strongs number="3966">greatly</strongs><strongs number="3334">distressed</strongs>; <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="559">spoke</strongs>of <strongs number="5619">stoning</strongs>him, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs>the <strongs number="5315">soul</strongs>of <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>was <strongs number="4843">grieved</strongs>, every <strongs number="376">man</strongs><strongs number="5921">for</strongs>his <strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>and <strongs number="5921">for</strongs>his <strongs number="1323">daughters</strongs>: but <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>encouraged <strongs number="2388">himself</strongs>in the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>his <strongs number="430">God</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="54">Abiathar</strongs>the <strongs number="3548">priest</strongs>, <strongs number="288">Ahimelech</strongs>'s <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>, I pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, bring me <strongs number="5066">hither</strongs>the <strongs number="646">ephod</strongs>. And <strongs number="54">Abiathar</strongs><strongs number="5066">brought</strongs>thither <strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="646">ephod</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='8'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7592">inquired</strongs>at the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, Shall I <strongs number="7291">pursue</strongs><strongs number="310">after</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1416">troop</strongs>? shall I <strongs number="5381">overtake</strongs>them? And he <strongs number="559">answered</strongs>him, <strongs number="7291">Pursue</strongs>: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>thou shalt surely <strongs number="5381 5381">overtake</strongs><em> them </em>, and without fail <strongs number="5337 5337">recover</strongs><em> all </em>. </verse>
      <verse number='9'>So <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="1980">went</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">he</strongs>and the <strongs number="8337">six</strongs><strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="854">with</strongs>him, and <strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="5704">to</strongs>the <strongs number="5158">brook</strongs><strongs number="1308">Besor</strongs>, where those that were left <strongs number="3498">behind</strongs><strongs number="5975">stayed</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='10'>But <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7291">pursued</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">he</strongs>and <strongs number="702">four</strongs><strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>: for two <strongs number="3967 *376">hundred</strongs>abode <strongs number="5975">behind</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs>were so <strongs number="6296">faint</strongs>that they could not go <strongs number="4480 5674">over</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="5158">brook</strongs><strongs number="1308">Besor</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='14'><strongs number="587">We</strongs>made an <strongs number="6584">invasion</strongs><em> upon </em>the <strongs number="5045">south</strongs>of the <strongs number="3774">Cherethites</strongs>, and <strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><em> the </em><em> coast </em><strongs number="834">which</strongs><em> belongeth </em>to <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>, and <strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>the <strongs number="5045">south</strongs>of <strongs number="3612">Caleb</strongs>; and we <strongs number="8313">burned</strongs><strongs number="6860">Ziklag</strongs>with <strongs number="784">fire</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>him, Canst thou bring me <strongs number="3381">down</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1416">company</strongs>? And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="7650">Swear</strongs>unto me by <strongs number="430">God</strongs>, that thou wilt <strongs number="518">neither</strongs><strongs number="4191">kill</strongs>me, <strongs number="518">nor</strongs><strongs number="5462">deliver</strongs>me into the <strongs number="3027">hands</strongs>of my <strongs number="113">master</strongs>, and I will bring thee <strongs number="3381">down</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1416">company</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='17'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="5221">smote</strongs>them from the <strongs number="4480 5399">twilight</strongs>even <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="6153">evening</strongs>of the next <strongs number="4283">day</strongs>: and there <strongs number="4422">escaped</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs>a <strongs number="376">man</strongs>of them, <strongs number="3588 518">save</strongs><strongs number="702">four</strongs><strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="5288">young</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs><strongs number="7392">rode</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="1581">camels</strongs>, and <strongs number="5127">fled</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='19'>And there was <strongs number="3808">nothing</strongs><strongs number="5737">lacking</strongs>to them, <strongs number="4480">neither</strongs><strongs number="6996">small</strongs><strongs number="5704">nor</strongs><strongs number="1419">great</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">neither</strongs><strongs number="1121">sons</strongs>nor <strongs number="1323">daughters</strongs>, neither <strongs number="4480 7998">spoil</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">nor</strongs><strongs number="3605">any</strongs><em> thing </em><strongs number="834">that</strongs>they had <strongs number="3947">taken</strongs>to them: <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7725">recovered</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='23'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, Ye shall <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="6213">do</strongs><strongs number="3651">so</strongs>, my <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>, <strongs number="854">with</strongs>that <strongs number="834">which</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>hath <strongs number="5414">given</strongs>us, who hath <strongs number="8104">preserved</strongs>us, and <strongs number="5414">delivered</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1416">company</strongs>that <strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>us into our <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='24'>For <strongs number="4310">who</strongs>will <strongs number="8085">hearken</strongs>unto you in <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1697">matter</strongs>? <strongs number="3588">but</strongs>as his <strongs number="2506">part</strongs><em> is </em>that goeth <strongs number="3381">down</strongs>to the <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>, so <em> shall </em>his <strongs number="2506">part</strongs><em> be </em>that <strongs number="3427">tarrieth</strongs><strongs number="5921">by</strongs>the <strongs number="3627">stuff</strongs>: they shall <strongs number="2505">part</strongs><strongs number="3162">alike</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='25'>And it <strongs number="1961">was</strongs><em> so </em>from that <strongs number="4480 3117 1931">day</strongs><strongs number="4605">forward</strongs>, that he <strongs number="7760">made</strongs>it a <strongs number="2706">statute</strongs>and an <strongs number="4941">ordinance</strongs>for <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>. </verse>
