      <verse number='2'>And the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of <strongs number="4080">Midian</strongs><strongs number="5810">prevailed</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>: <em> and </em><strongs number="4480 6440">because</strongs>of the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="6213">made</strongs>them <strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="4492">dens</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs><em> are </em>in the <strongs number="2022">mountains</strongs>, and <strongs number="4631">caves</strongs>, and <strongs number="4679">strongholds</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>And <em> so </em>it <strongs number="1961">was</strongs>, <strongs number="518">when</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>had <strongs number="2232">sown</strongs>, that the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>came <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>, and the <strongs number="6003">Amalekites</strongs>, and the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of the <strongs number="6924">east</strongs>, even they came <strongs number="5927">up</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>them; </verse>
      <verse number='4'>And they <strongs number="2583">encamped</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>them, and <strongs number="7843">destroyed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="2981">increase</strongs>of the <strongs number="776">earth</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">till</strongs>thou <strongs number="935">come</strongs>unto <strongs number="5804">Gaza</strongs>, and <strongs number="7604">left</strongs><strongs number="3808">no</strongs><strongs number="4241">sustenance</strongs>for <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, neither <strongs number="7716">sheep</strongs>, nor <strongs number="7794">ox</strongs>, nor <strongs number="2543">ass</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'><strongs number="3588">For</strongs><strongs number="1992">they</strongs>came <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>with their <strongs number="4735">cattle</strongs>and their <strongs number="168">tents</strongs>, and they <strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="1992">as</strongs><strongs number="697">grasshoppers</strongs>for <strongs number="7230">multitude</strongs>; <em> for </em>both <strongs number="1992">they</strongs>and their <strongs number="1581">camels</strongs>were <strongs number="369">without</strongs><strongs number="4557">number</strongs>: and they <strongs number="935">entered</strongs>into the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>to <strongs number="7843">destroy</strongs>it. </verse>
      <verse number='6'>And <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>was <strongs number="3966">greatly</strongs><strongs number="1809">impoverished</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">because</strongs>of the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>; and the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="2199">cried</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">when</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="2199">cried</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>because <strongs number="5921 182">of</strongs>the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='8'>That the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>a <strongs number="5030">prophet</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, which <strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto them, <strongs number="3541">Thus</strongs><strongs number="559">saith</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="430">God</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, <strongs number="595">I</strongs>brought you <strongs number="5927 *853">up</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 4714">Egypt</strongs>, and brought you <strongs number="3318 *853">forth</strongs>out of the <strongs number="4480 1004">house</strongs>of <strongs number="5650">bondage</strongs>; </verse>

      <verse number='12'>And the <strongs number="4397">angel</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="7200">appeared</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, The <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>thee, thou mighty <strongs number="1368">man</strongs>of <strongs number="2428">valor</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='13'>And <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="994">Oh</strongs>my <strongs number="113">Lord</strongs>, if the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="3426">be</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>us, <strongs number="4100">why</strongs>then is <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="2063">this</strongs><strongs number="4672">befallen</strongs>us? and <strongs number="346">where</strongs><em> be </em><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>his <strongs number="6381">miracles</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs>our <strongs number="1">fathers</strongs><strongs number="5608">told</strongs>us of, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, Did <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>bring us <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 4714">Egypt</strongs>? but <strongs number="6258">now</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>hath <strongs number="5203">forsaken</strongs>us, and <strongs number="5414">delivered</strongs>us into the <strongs number="3709">hands</strongs>of the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='14'>And the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="6437">looked</strongs><strongs number="413">upon</strongs>him, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Go <strongs number="1980">in</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs>thy <strongs number="3581">might</strongs>, and thou shalt <strongs number="3467">save</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>from the <strongs number="4480 3709">hand</strongs>of the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>: have <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>I <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>thee? </verse>
      <verse number='15'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="994">Oh</strongs>my <strongs number="136">Lord</strongs>, <strongs number="4100">wherewith</strongs>shall I <strongs number="3467">save</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>? <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, my <strongs number="504">family</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="1800">poor</strongs>in <strongs number="4519">Manasseh</strongs>, and <strongs number="595">I</strongs><em> am </em>the <strongs number="6810">least</strongs>in my <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>And the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="3588">Surely</strongs>I will <strongs number="1961">be</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>thee, and thou shalt <strongs number="5221">smite</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>as <strongs number="259">one</strongs><strongs number="376">man</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="518">If</strongs><strongs number="4994">now</strongs>I have <strongs number="4672">found</strongs><strongs number="2580">grace</strongs>in thy <strongs number="5869">sight</strongs>, then <strongs number="6213">show</strongs>me a <strongs number="226">sign</strongs>that <strongs number="7945 859">thou</strongs><strongs number="1696">talkest</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>me. </verse>
      <verse number='18'><strongs number="4185">Depart</strongs><strongs number="408">not</strongs><strongs number="4480 2088">hence</strongs>, I pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">until</strongs>I <strongs number="935">come</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>thee, and bring <strongs number="3318">forth</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>my <strongs number="4503">present</strongs>, and <strongs number="5117">set</strongs><em> it </em><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>thee. And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="595">I</strongs>will <strongs number="3427">tarry</strongs><strongs number="5704">until</strongs>thou come <strongs number="7725">again</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='19'>And <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs>went <strongs number="935">in</strongs>, and made <strongs number="6213">ready</strongs>a <strongs number="1423 5795">kid</strongs>, and unleavened <strongs number="4682">cakes</strongs>of an <strongs number="374">ephah</strongs>of <strongs number="7058">flour</strongs>: the <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs>he <strongs number="7760">put</strongs>in a <strongs number="5536">basket</strongs>, and he <strongs number="7760">put</strongs>the <strongs number="4839">broth</strongs>in a <strongs number="6517">pot</strongs>, and brought <em> it </em><strongs number="3318">out</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him <strongs number="413 8478">under</strongs>the <strongs number="424">oak</strongs>, and <strongs number="5066">presented</strongs><em> it </em>. </verse>
      <verse number='20'>And the <strongs number="4397">angel</strongs>of <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="3947">Take</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs>and the unleavened <strongs number="4682">cakes</strongs>, and <strongs number="5117">lay</strongs><em> them </em><strongs number="413">upon</strongs><strongs number="1975">this</strongs><strongs number="5553">rock</strongs>, and pour <strongs number="8210">out</strongs>the <strongs number="4839">broth</strongs>.       <verse number='21'>Then the <strongs number="4397">angel</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>put <strongs number="7971">forth</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="7097">end</strongs>of the <strongs number="4938">staff</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> was </em>in his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>, and <strongs number="5060">touched</strongs>the <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs>and the unleavened <strongs number="4682">cakes</strongs>; and there rose <strongs number="5927">up</strongs><strongs number="784">fire</strongs>out <strongs number="4480">of</strongs>the <strongs number="6697">rock</strongs>, and <strongs number="398">consumed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs>and the unleavened <strongs number="4682">cakes</strongs>.       <verse number='22'>And when <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs><strongs number="7200">perceived</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="1931">he</strongs><em> was </em>an <strongs number="4397">angel</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="162">Alas</strongs>, O <strongs number="136">Lord</strongs><strongs number="3069">GOD</strongs>! <strongs number="3588">for</strongs><strongs number="5921 3651">because</strongs>I have <strongs number="7200">seen</strongs>an <strongs number="4397">angel</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="6440">face</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="6440">face</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='23'>And the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto him, <strongs number="7965">Peace</strongs><em> be </em>unto thee; <strongs number="3372">fear</strongs><strongs number="408">not</strongs>: thou shalt <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="4191">die</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='24'>Then <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs><strongs number="1129">built</strongs>an <strongs number="4196">altar</strongs><strongs number="8033">there</strongs>unto the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and <strongs number="7121">called</strongs>it <strongs number="3073">Jehovah</strongs>-shalom: <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>it <em> is </em><strongs number="5750">yet</strongs>in <strongs number="6084">Ophrah</strongs>of the <strongs number="33">Abi</strongs>-ezrites. </verse>

      <verse number='26'>And <strongs number="1129">build</strongs>an <strongs number="4196">altar</strongs>unto the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>thy <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>the <strongs number="7218">top</strongs>of <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="4581">rock</strongs>, in the ordered <strongs number="4634">place</strongs>, and <strongs number="3947">take</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="8145">second</strongs><strongs number="6499">bullock</strongs>, and <strongs number="5927">offer</strongs>a burnt <strongs number="5930">sacrifice</strongs>with the <strongs number="6086">wood</strongs>of the <strongs number="842">grove</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs>thou shalt cut <strongs number="3772">down</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='27'>Then <strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs><strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>of his <strongs number="4480 5650">servants</strongs>, and <strongs number="6213">did</strongs><strongs number="834">as</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>had <strongs number="1696">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him: and <em> so </em>it <strongs number="1961">was</strongs>, <strongs number="834">because</strongs>he <strongs number="3372">feared</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">household</strongs>, and the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, that he could not <strongs number="4480 6213">do</strongs><em> it </em>by <strongs number="3119">day</strongs>, that he <strongs number="6213">did</strongs><em> it </em>by <strongs number="3915">night</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='32'>Therefore on <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>he <strongs number="7121">called</strongs>him <strongs number="3378">Jerubbaal</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, Let <strongs number="1168">Baal</strongs><strongs number="7378">plead</strongs>against him, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs>he hath thrown <strongs number="5422">down</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="4196">altar</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='33'>Then <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="4080">Midianites</strongs>and the <strongs number="6003">Amalekites</strongs>and the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of the <strongs number="6924">east</strongs>were <strongs number="622">gathered</strongs><strongs number="3162">together</strongs>, and went <strongs number="5674">over</strongs>, and <strongs number="2583">pitched</strongs>in the <strongs number="6010">valley</strongs>of <strongs number="3157">Jezreel</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='34'>But the <strongs number="7307">Spirit</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>came <strongs number="3847">upon</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1439">Gideon</strongs>, and he <strongs number="8628">blew</strongs>a <strongs number="7782">trumpet</strongs>; and <strongs number="44">Abi</strongs>-ezer was <strongs number="2199">gathered</strongs><strongs number="310">after</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='35'>And he <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="4397">messengers</strongs>throughout <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="4519">Manasseh</strongs>; <strongs number="1931">who</strongs><strongs number="1571">also</strongs>was <strongs number="2199">gathered</strongs><strongs number="310">after</strongs>him: and he <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="4397">messengers</strongs>unto <strongs number="836">Asher</strongs>, and unto <strongs number="2074">Zebulun</strongs>, and unto <strongs number="5321">Naphtali</strongs>; and they came <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs>them. </verse>
