      <verse number='1'>In the <strongs number="7969">third</strongs><strongs number="8141">year</strongs>of the <strongs number="4438">reign</strongs>of <strongs number="3079">Jehoiakim</strongs><strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="5019">Nebuchadnezzar</strongs><strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="894">Babylon</strongs>unto <strongs number="3389">Jerusalem</strongs>, and <strongs number="6696 5921">besieged</strongs>it. </verse>
      <verse number='2'>And the <strongs number="136">Lord</strongs><strongs number="5414">gave</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3079">Jehoiakim</strongs><strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>into his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>, with <strongs number="4480 7117">part</strongs>of the <strongs number="3627">vessels</strongs>of the <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>of <strongs number="430">God</strongs>: which he carried <strongs number="935">into</strongs>the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of <strongs number="8152">Shinar</strongs>to the <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>of his <strongs number="430">god</strongs>; and he <strongs number="935">brought</strongs>the <strongs number="3627">vessels</strongs>into the <strongs number="214">treasure</strongs><strongs number="1004">house</strongs>of his <strongs number="430">god</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>And the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="559">spoke</strongs>unto <strongs number="828">Ashpenaz</strongs>the <strongs number="7227">master</strongs>of his <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs>, that he should <strongs number="935">bring</strongs><em> certain </em>of the <strongs number="4480 1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and of the king's <strongs number="4480 2233 4410">seed</strongs>, and <strongs number="4480">of</strongs>the <strongs number="6579">princes</strongs>; </verse>
      <verse number='4'><strongs number="3206">Children</strongs>in <strongs number="834">whom</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="369 3605">no</strongs><strongs number="3971">blemish</strongs>, but well <strongs number="2896 4758">favored</strongs>, and <strongs number="7919">skillful</strongs>in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="2451">wisdom</strongs>, and <strongs number="3045">cunning</strongs>in <strongs number="1847">knowledge</strongs>, and <strongs number="995">understanding</strongs><strongs number="4093">science</strongs>, and <strongs number="834">such</strongs>as <em> had </em><strongs number="3581">ability</strongs>in them to <strongs number="5975">stand</strongs>in the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="1964">palace</strongs>, and whom they might <strongs number="3925">teach</strongs>the <strongs number="5612">learning</strongs>and the <strongs number="3956">tongue</strongs>of the <strongs number="3778">Chaldeans</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'>And the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="4487">appointed</strongs>them a <strongs number="3117 3117">daily</strongs><strongs number="1697">provision</strongs>of the king's <strongs number="4480 6598 4428">meat</strongs>, and of the <strongs number="4480 3196">wine</strongs>which he <strongs number="4960">drank</strongs>: so <strongs number="1431">nourishing</strongs>them <strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="8141">years</strongs>, that at the <strongs number="4480 7117">end</strongs>thereof they might <strongs number="5975">stand</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='6'>Now among these <strongs number="1961">were</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>, <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>, <strongs number="2608">Hananiah</strongs>, <strongs number="4332">Mishael</strongs>, and <strongs number="5838">Azariah</strongs>: </verse>
      <verse number='7'>Unto whom the <strongs number="8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs><strongs number="7760">gave</strongs><strongs number="8034">names</strongs>: for he <strongs number="7760">gave</strongs>unto <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs><em> the </em><em> name </em>of <strongs number="1095">Belteshazzar</strongs>; and to <strongs number="2608">Hananiah</strongs>, of <strongs number="7714">Shadrach</strongs>; and to <strongs number="4332">Mishael</strongs>, of <strongs number="4335">Meshach</strongs>; and to <strongs number="5838">Azariah</strongs>, of <strongs number="5664">Abed</strongs>-nego. </verse>
      <verse number='8'>But <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs><strongs number="7760">purposed</strongs><strongs number="5921">in</strongs>his <strongs number="3820">heart</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs>he would <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>defile <strongs number="1351">himself</strongs>with the portion of the king's <strongs number="6598 4428">meat</strongs>, nor with the <strongs number="3196">wine</strongs>which he <strongs number="4960">drank</strongs>: therefore he <strongs number="1245">requested</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs>he might <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>defile <strongs number="1351">himself</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='9'>Now <strongs number="430">God</strongs>had <strongs number="5414">brought</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>into <strongs number="2617">favor</strongs>and tender <strongs number="7356">love</strongs><strongs number="6440">with</strongs>the <strongs number="8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='10'>And the <strongs number="8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>, <strongs number="589">I</strongs><strongs number="3372">fear</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>my <strongs number="113">lord</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>, <strongs number="834">who</strongs>hath <strongs number="4487">appointed</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>your <strongs number="3978">meat</strongs>and your <strongs number="4960">drink</strongs>: <strongs number="834">for</strongs><strongs number="4100">why</strongs>should he <strongs number="7200">see</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>your <strongs number="6440">faces</strongs>worse <strongs number="2196">liking</strongs><strongs number="4480">than</strongs>the <strongs number="3206">children</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs><em> are </em>of your <strongs number="1524">sort</strongs>? then shall ye make <em> me </em><strongs number="2325">endanger</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>my <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>to the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='11'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="4453">Melzar</strongs>, <strongs number="834">whom</strongs>the <strongs number="8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs>had <strongs number="4487">set</strongs><strongs number="5921">over</strongs><strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>, <strongs number="2608">Hananiah</strongs>, <strongs number="4332">Mishael</strongs>, and <strongs number="5838">Azariah</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='12'><strongs number="5254">Prove</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>thy <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>, I beseech <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, <strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="3117">days</strongs>; and let them <strongs number="5414">give</strongs>us <strongs number="2235">pulse</strongs>to <strongs number="398">eat</strongs>, and <strongs number="4325">water</strongs>to <strongs number="8354">drink</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='13'>Then let our <strongs number="4758">countenances</strongs>be looked <strongs number="7200">upon</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>thee, and the <strongs number="4758">countenance</strongs>of the <strongs number="3206">children</strongs>that <strongs number="398">eat</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>of the portion of the king's <strongs number="6598 4428">meat</strongs>: and <strongs number="834">as</strongs>thou <strongs number="7200">seest</strongs>, <strongs number="6213">deal</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>thy <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='14'>So he <strongs number="8085">consented</strongs>to them in <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1697">matter</strongs>, and <strongs number="5254">proved</strongs>them <strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="3117">days</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>And at the <strongs number="4480 7117">end</strongs>of <strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="3117">days</strongs>their <strongs number="4758">countenances</strongs><strongs number="7200">appeared</strongs><strongs number="2896">fairer</strongs>and <strongs number="1277">fatter</strongs>in <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs><strongs number="4480">than</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="3206">children</strongs>which did <strongs number="398">eat</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the portion of the king's <strongs number="6598 4428">meat</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>Thus <strongs number="4453">Melzar</strongs>took <strongs number="5375">away</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the portion of their <strongs number="6598">meat</strongs>, and the <strongs number="3196">wine</strongs>that they should <strongs number="4960">drink</strongs>; and <strongs number="5414">gave</strongs>them <strongs number="2235">pulse</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>As for <strongs number="428">these</strongs><strongs number="702">four</strongs><strongs number="3206">children</strongs>, <strongs number="430">God</strongs><strongs number="5414">gave</strongs>them <strongs number="4093">knowledge</strongs>and <strongs number="7919">skill</strongs>in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="5612">learning</strongs>and <strongs number="2451">wisdom</strongs>: and <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>had <strongs number="995">understanding</strongs>in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="2377">visions</strongs>and <strongs number="2472">dreams</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='18'>Now at the <strongs number="4480 7117">end</strongs>of the <strongs number="3117">days</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>had <strongs number="559">said</strongs>he should bring them <strongs number="935">in</strongs>, then the <strongs number="8269">prince</strongs>of the <strongs number="5631">eunuchs</strongs>brought them <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs><strongs number="5019">Nebuchadnezzar</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='19'>And the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="1696">communed</strongs><strongs number="854">with</strongs>them; and among them <strongs number="4480 3605">all</strongs>was <strongs number="4672">found</strongs><strongs number="3808">none</strongs>like <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs>, <strongs number="2608">Hananiah</strongs>, <strongs number="4332">Mishael</strongs>, and <strongs number="5838">Azariah</strongs>: therefore <strongs number="5975">stood</strongs>they <strongs number="6440">before</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='20'>And in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs><strongs number="1697">matters</strongs>of <strongs number="2451">wisdom</strongs><em> and </em><strongs number="998">understanding</strongs>, <strongs number="834">that</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="1245">inquired</strongs><strongs number="4480">of</strongs>them, he <strongs number="4672">found</strongs>them <strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="3027">times</strongs>better <strongs number="5921">than</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="2748">magicians</strongs><em> and </em><strongs number="825">astrologers</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em>in <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>his <strongs number="4438">realm</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='21'>And <strongs number="1840">Daniel</strongs><strongs number="1961">continued</strongs><em> even </em><strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="259">first</strongs><strongs number="8141">year</strongs>of <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="3566">Cyrus</strongs>. </verse>
