<verse number='1'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>at <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="6256">time</strongs>, that <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>went <strongs number="3381">down</strongs><strongs number="4480 854">from</strongs>his <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs>, and turned <strongs number="5186">in</strongs><strongs number="5704">to</strongs>a <strongs number="376">certain</strongs><strongs number="5726">Adullamite</strongs>, whose <strongs number="8034">name</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="2437">Hirah</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='2'>And <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="8033">there</strongs>a <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>of a <strongs number="376">certain</strongs><strongs number="3669">Canaanite</strongs>, whose <strongs number="8034">name</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="7770">Shuah</strongs>; and he <strongs number="3947">took</strongs>her, and went <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>her. </verse>

<verse number='7'>And <strongs number="6147">Er</strongs>, <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>'s <strongs number="1060">firstborn</strongs>, <strongs number="1961">was</strongs><strongs number="7451">wicked</strongs>in the <strongs number="5869">sight</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>; and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="4191">slew</strongs>him. </verse>

<verse number='8'>And <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto <strongs number="209">Onan</strongs>, Go <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>thy <strongs number="251">brother</strongs>'s <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>, and <strongs number="2992">marry</strongs>her, and raise <strongs number="6965">up</strongs><strongs number="2233">seed</strongs>to thy <strongs number="251">brother</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='11'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>to <strongs number="8559">Tamar</strongs>his <strongs number="3618">daughter</strongs>-in-law, <strongs number="3427">Remain</strongs>a <strongs number="490">widow</strongs>at thy <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">till</strongs><strongs number="7956">Shelah</strongs>my <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>be <strongs number="1431">grown</strongs>: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>he <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Lest <strongs number="6435">peradventure</strongs><strongs number="1931">he</strongs><strongs number="4191">die</strongs><strongs number="1571">also</strongs>, as his <strongs number="251">brethren</strongs><em> did </em>. And <strongs number="8559">Tamar</strongs><strongs number="1980">went</strongs>and <strongs number="3427">dwelt</strongs>in her <strongs number="1">father</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='12'>And in process of <strongs number="7235 3117">time</strongs>the <strongs number="1323">daughter</strongs>of <strongs number="7770">Shuah</strongs><strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>'s <strongs number="802">wife</strongs><strongs number="4191">died</strongs>; and <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>was <strongs number="5162">comforted</strongs>, and went <strongs number="5927">up</strongs><strongs number="5921">unto</strongs>his <strongs number="1494 6629">sheepshearers</strongs>to <strongs number="8553">Timnath</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">he</strongs>and his <strongs number="7453">friend</strongs><strongs number="2437">Hirah</strongs>the <strongs number="5726">Adullamite</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='13'>And it was <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="8559">Tamar</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, <strongs number="2009">Behold</strongs>thy <strongs number="2524">father</strongs>-in-law goeth <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>to <strongs number="8553">Timnath</strongs>to <strongs number="1494">shear</strongs>his <strongs number="6629">sheep</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='14'>And she <strongs number="5493">put</strongs>her <strongs number="491">widow</strongs>'s <strongs number="899">garments</strongs>off <strongs number="4480 5921">from</strongs>her, and <strongs number="3680">covered</strongs>her with a <strongs number="6809">veil</strongs>, and wrapped <strongs number="5968">herself</strongs>, and <strongs number="3427">sat</strongs>in an <strongs number="5879">open</strongs><strongs number="6607">place</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="5921">by</strongs>the <strongs number="1870">way</strongs>to <strongs number="8553">Timnath</strongs>; <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>she <strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="7956">Shelah</strongs>was <strongs number="1431">grown</strongs>, and <strongs number="1931">she</strongs>was <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="5414">given</strongs>unto him to <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='16'>And he <strongs number="5186">turned</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>her <strongs number="413">by</strongs>the <strongs number="1870">way</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Go <strongs number="3051">to</strongs>, I pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, let me come <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>thee; ( <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>he <strongs number="3045">knew</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="1931">she</strongs><em> was </em>his <strongs number="3618">daughter</strongs>-in-law.) And she <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="4100">What</strongs>wilt thou <strongs number="5414">give</strongs>me, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs>thou mayest come <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>me? </verse>

And she <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Wilt thou <strongs number="5414">give</strongs><em> me </em>a <strongs number="6162">pledge</strongs>, <strongs number="5704">till</strongs>thou <strongs number="7971">send</strongs><em> it </em>? </verse>

<verse number='18'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="4100">What</strongs><strongs number="6162">pledge</strongs>shall I <strongs number="5414">give</strongs>thee? And she <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Thy <strongs number="2368">signet</strongs>, and thy <strongs number="6616">bracelets</strongs>, and thy <strongs number="4294">staff</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> is </em>in thine <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>. And he <strongs number="5414">gave</strongs><em> it </em>her, and came <strongs number="935">in</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>her, and she <strongs number="2029">conceived</strongs>by him. </verse>

<verse number='20'>And <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1423 5795">kid</strongs>by the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of his <strongs number="7453">friend</strongs>the <strongs number="5726">Adullamite</strongs>, to <strongs number="3947">receive</strongs><em> his </em><strongs number="6162">pledge</strongs>from the <strongs number="802">woman</strongs>'s <strongs number="4480 3027">hand</strongs>: but he <strongs number="4672">found</strongs>her <strongs number="3808">not</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='21'>Then he <strongs number="7592">asked</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of that <strongs number="4725">place</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, <strongs number="346">Where</strongs><em> is </em>the <strongs number="6948">harlot</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">that</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="5879">openly</strongs><strongs number="5921">by</strongs>the way <strongs number="1870">side</strongs>? And they <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, There <strongs number="1961">was</strongs><strongs number="3808">no</strongs><strongs number="6948">harlot</strongs>in <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><em> place </em>. </verse>

<verse number='22'>And he <strongs number="7725">returned</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, I <strongs number="3808">cannot</strongs><strongs number="4672">find</strongs>her; and <strongs number="1571">also</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="4725">place</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <em> that </em>there <strongs number="1961">was</strongs><strongs number="3808">no</strongs><strongs number="6948">harlot</strongs>in <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><em> place </em>. </verse>

<verse number='23'>And <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Let her <strongs number="3947">take</strongs><em> it </em>to her, <strongs number="6435">lest</strongs>we <strongs number="1961">be</strongs><strongs number="937">shamed</strongs>: <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, I <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1423">kid</strongs>, and <strongs number="859">thou</strongs>hast <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="4672">found</strongs>her. </verse>

<verse number='24'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>about <strongs number="4480 7969">three</strongs><strongs number="2320">months</strongs>after, that it was <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, <strongs number="8559">Tamar</strongs>thy <strongs number="3618">daughter</strongs>-in-law hath played the <strongs number="2181">harlot</strongs>; and <strongs number="1571">also</strongs>, <strongs number="2009">behold</strongs>, she <em> is </em>with <strongs number="2030">child</strongs>by <strongs number="2183">whoredom</strongs>. And <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Bring her <strongs number="3318">forth</strongs>, and let her be <strongs number="8313">burnt</strongs>. </verse>

<verse number='25'>When <strongs number="1931">she</strongs><em> was </em>brought <strongs number="3318">forth</strongs>, <strongs number="1931">she</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>her <strongs number="2524">father</strongs>-in-law, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, By the <strongs number="376">man</strongs>, <strongs number="834">whose</strongs><strongs number="428">these</strongs><em> are, </em><em> am </em><strongs number="595">I</strongs>with <strongs number="2030">child</strongs>: and she <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="5234">Discern</strongs>, I pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, <strongs number="4310">whose</strongs><em> are </em><strongs number="428">these</strongs>, the <strongs number="2858">signet</strongs>, and <strongs number="6616">bracelets</strongs>, and <strongs number="4294">staff</strongs>. </verse>

And he <strongs number="3045">knew</strongs>her <strongs number="3254">again</strongs><strongs number="3808">no</strongs><strongs number="5750">more</strongs>. </verse>
