      <verse number='1'>Now the <strongs number="1697">word</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="1961">came</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>of <strongs number="573">Amittai</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='2'><strongs number="6965">Arise</strongs>, <strongs number="1980">go</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="5210">Nineveh</strongs>, that <strongs number="1419">great</strongs><strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="7121">cry</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>it; <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>their <strongs number="7451">wickedness</strongs>is come <strongs number="5927">up</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>me. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>But <strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>rose <strongs number="6965">up</strongs>to <strongs number="1272">flee</strongs>unto <strongs number="8659">Tarshish</strongs>from the <strongs number="4480 6440">presence</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and went <strongs number="3381">down</strongs>to <strongs number="3305">Joppa</strongs>; and he <strongs number="4672">found</strongs>a <strongs number="591">ship</strongs><strongs number="935">going</strongs>to <strongs number="8659">Tarshish</strongs>: so he <strongs number="5414">paid</strongs>the <strongs number="7939">fare</strongs>thereof, and went <strongs number="3381">down</strongs>into it, to <strongs number="935">go</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>them unto <strongs number="8659">Tarshish</strongs>from the <strongs number="4480 6440">presence</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='4'>But the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>sent <strongs number="2904">out</strongs>a <strongs number="1419">great</strongs><strongs number="7307">wind</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>, and there <strongs number="1961">was</strongs>a <strongs number="1419">mighty</strongs><strongs number="5591">tempest</strongs>in the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>, so that the <strongs number="591">ship</strongs>was <strongs number="2803">like</strongs>to be <strongs number="7665">broken</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'>Then the <strongs number="4419">mariners</strongs>were <strongs number="3372">afraid</strongs>, and <strongs number="2199">cried</strongs>every <strongs number="376">man</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>his <strongs number="430">god</strongs>, and cast <strongs number="2904">forth</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="3627">wares</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em>in the <strongs number="591">ship</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>, to <strongs number="7043">lighten</strongs><em> it </em><strongs number="4480 5921">of</strongs>them. But <strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>was gone <strongs number="3381">down</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>the <strongs number="3411">sides</strongs>of the <strongs number="5600">ship</strongs>; and he <strongs number="7901">lay</strongs>, and was fast <strongs number="7290">asleep</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='6'>So the <strongs number="7227 2259">shipmaster</strongs><strongs number="7126">came</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>him, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>unto him, <strongs number="4100">What</strongs>meanest thou, O <strongs number="7290">sleeper</strongs>? <strongs number="6965">arise</strongs>, <strongs number="7121">call</strongs><strongs number="413">upon</strongs>thy <strongs number="430">God</strongs>, if so <strongs number="194">be</strongs>that <strongs number="430">God</strongs>will <strongs number="6245">think</strongs>upon us, that we <strongs number="6">perish</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And they <strongs number="559">said</strongs>every <strongs number="376">one</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>his <strongs number="7453">fellow</strongs>, <strongs number="1980">Come</strongs>, and let us <strongs number="5307">cast</strongs><strongs number="1486">lots</strongs>, that we may <strongs number="3045">know</strongs>for whose <strongs number="7945 4310">cause</strongs><strongs number="2063">this</strongs><strongs number="7451">evil</strongs><em> is </em>upon us. So they <strongs number="5307">cast</strongs><strongs number="1486">lots</strongs>, and the <strongs number="1486">lot</strongs><strongs number="5307">fell</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs><strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='8'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs>they <strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="5046">Tell</strongs>us, we pray <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, for whose <strongs number="834 4310">cause</strongs><strongs number="2063">this</strongs><strongs number="7451">evil</strongs><em> is </em>upon us; <strongs number="4100">What</strongs><em> is </em>thine <strongs number="4399">occupation</strongs>? and <strongs number="4480 370">whence</strongs><strongs number="935">comest</strongs>thou? <strongs number="4100">what</strongs><em> is </em>thy <strongs number="776">country</strongs>? and of <strongs number="335 4480 2088">what</strongs><strongs number="5971">people</strongs><em> art </em><strongs number="859">thou</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='9'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>them, <strongs number="595">I</strongs><em> am </em>a <strongs number="5680">Hebrew</strongs>; and <strongs number="589">I</strongs><strongs number="3372">fear</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, the <strongs number="430">God</strongs>of <strongs number="8064">heaven</strongs>, <strongs number="834">which</strongs>hath <strongs number="6213">made</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>and the <strongs number="3004">dry</strongs><em> land </em>. </verse>
      <verse number='10'>Then were the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="1419">exceedingly</strongs><strongs number="3372 3374">afraid</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="4100">Why</strongs>hast thou <strongs number="6213">done</strongs><strongs number="2063">this</strongs>? <strongs number="3588">For</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="3045">knew</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="1931">he</strongs><strongs number="1272">fled</strongs>from the <strongs number="4480 6440">presence</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs>he had <strongs number="5046">told</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='11'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs>they <strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="4100">What</strongs>shall we <strongs number="6213">do</strongs>unto thee, that the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>may be <strongs number="8367">calm</strongs><strongs number="4480 5921">unto</strongs>us? <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs><strongs number="1980">wrought</strongs>, and was <strongs number="5590">tempestuous</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='12'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>them, Take me <strongs number="5375">up</strongs>, and cast me <strongs number="2904">forth</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>; so shall the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>be <strongs number="8367">calm</strongs><strongs number="4480 5921">unto</strongs>you: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs><strongs number="589">I</strongs><strongs number="3045">know</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>for my <strongs number="7945">sake</strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1419">great</strongs><strongs number="5591">tempest</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>you. </verse>
      <verse number='13'>Nevertheless the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="2864">rowed</strongs>hard to <strongs number="7725">bring</strongs><em> it </em><strongs number="413">to</strongs>the <strongs number="3004">land</strongs>; but they <strongs number="3201">could</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs>: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs><strongs number="1980">wrought</strongs>, and was <strongs number="5590">tempestuous</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='14'>Wherefore they <strongs number="7121">cried</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, We beseech <strongs number="4994">thee</strongs>, O <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, we beseech <strongs number="577">thee</strongs>, let us <strongs number="408">not</strongs><strongs number="6">perish</strongs>for <strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="376">man</strongs>'s <strongs number="5315">life</strongs>, and <strongs number="5414">lay</strongs><strongs number="408">not</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>us <strongs number="5355">innocent</strongs><strongs number="1818">blood</strongs>: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs><strongs number="859">thou</strongs>, O <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, hast <strongs number="6213">done</strongs><strongs number="834">as</strongs>it <strongs number="2654">pleased</strongs>thee. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>So they took <strongs number="5375">up</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>, and cast him <strongs number="2904">forth</strongs><strongs number="413">into</strongs>the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs>: and the <strongs number="3220">sea</strongs><strongs number="5975">ceased</strongs>from her <strongs number="4480 2197">raging</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>Then the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="3372 3374">feared</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="1419">exceedingly</strongs>, and <strongs number="2076">offered</strongs>a <strongs number="2077">sacrifice</strongs>unto the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and <strongs number="5087">made</strongs><strongs number="5088">vows</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>Now the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>had <strongs number="4487">prepared</strongs>a <strongs number="1419">great</strongs><strongs number="1709">fish</strongs>to swallow <strongs number="1104">up</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs>. And <strongs number="3124">Jonah</strongs><strongs number="1961">was</strongs>in the <strongs number="4578">belly</strongs>of the <strongs number="1709">fish</strongs><strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="3117">days</strongs>and <strongs number="7969">three</strongs><strongs number="3915">nights</strongs>. </verse>
