      <verse number='2'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>and the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>were gathered <strongs number="622">together</strongs>, and <strongs number="2583">pitched</strongs>by the <strongs number="6010">valley</strongs>of <strongs number="425">Elah</strongs>, and set the <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>in <strongs number="6186">array</strongs><strongs number="7125">against</strongs>the <strongs number="6430">Philistines</strongs>. </verse>

And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, I <strongs number="3201 3808">cannot</strongs><strongs number="1980">go</strongs>with <strongs number="428">these</strongs>; <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>I have <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="5254">proved</strongs><em> them </em>. And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="5493">put</strongs>them <strongs number="4480 5921">off</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='40'>And he <strongs number="3947">took</strongs>his <strongs number="4731">staff</strongs>in his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>, and <strongs number="977">chose</strongs>him <strongs number="2568">five</strongs><strongs number="2512">smooth</strongs><strongs number="68">stones</strongs>out <strongs number="4480">of</strongs>the <strongs number="5158">brook</strongs>, and <strongs number="7760">put</strongs>them in a <strongs number="7462">shepherd</strongs>'s <strongs number="3627">bag</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs>he had, even in a <strongs number="3219">scrip</strongs>; and his <strongs number="7050">sling</strongs><em> was </em>in his <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>: and he drew <strongs number="5066">near</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='41'>And the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs><strongs number="1980">came</strongs><strongs number="1980">on</strongs>and drew <strongs number="7131">near</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>; and the <strongs number="376">man</strongs>that <strongs number="5375">bore</strongs>the <strongs number="6793">shield</strongs><em> went </em><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='42'>And when the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs>looked <strongs number="5027">about</strongs>, and <strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, he <strongs number="959">disdained</strongs>him: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>he <strongs number="1961">was</strongs><em> but </em>a <strongs number="5288">youth</strongs>, and <strongs number="132">ruddy</strongs>, and <strongs number="5973">of</strongs>a <strongs number="3303">fair</strongs><strongs number="4758">countenance</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='43'>And the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <em> Am </em><strongs number="595">I</strongs>a <strongs number="3611">dog</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="859">thou</strongs><strongs number="935">comest</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>me with <strongs number="4731">staves</strongs>?       <verse number='44'>And the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <strongs number="1980">Come</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>me, and I will <strongs number="5414">give</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>thy <strongs number="1320">flesh</strongs>unto the <strongs number="5775">fowls</strongs>of the <strongs number="8064">air</strongs>, and to the <strongs number="929">beasts</strongs>of the <strongs number="7704">field</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='48'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">when</strongs>the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs><strongs number="6965">arose</strongs>, and <strongs number="1980">came</strongs>and drew <strongs number="7126">nigh</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, that <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="4116">hasted</strongs>, and <strongs number="7323">ran</strongs>toward the <strongs number="4634">army</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs>the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs>. </verse>

And the <strongs number="2491">wounded</strongs>of the <strongs number="6430">Philistines</strongs>fell <strongs number="5307">down</strongs>by the <strongs number="1870">way</strongs>to <strongs number="8189">Shaaraim</strongs>, even <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="1661">Gath</strongs>, and <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs><strongs number="6138">Ekron</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='53'>And the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="7725">returned</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 1814">chasing</strongs><strongs number="310">after</strongs>the <strongs number="6430">Philistines</strongs>, and they <strongs number="8155">spoiled</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>their <strongs number="4264">tents</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='54'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>of the <strongs number="6430">Philistine</strongs>, and <strongs number="935">brought</strongs>it to <strongs number="3389">Jerusalem</strongs>; but he <strongs number="7760">put</strongs>his <strongs number="3627">armor</strongs>in his <strongs number="168">tent</strongs>. </verse>
