      <verse number='2'><strongs number="3541">Thus</strongs><strongs number="559">saith</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>of <strongs number="6635">hosts</strongs>, I <strongs number="6485">remember</strongs><em> that </em><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs><strongs number="6002">Amalek</strongs><strongs number="6213">did</strongs>to <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, <strongs number="834">how</strongs>he <strongs number="7760">laid</strongs><em> wait </em>for him in the <strongs number="1870">way</strongs>, when he came <strongs number="5927">up</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 4714">Egypt</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='4'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>gathered the people <strongs number="8085 *853 5971">together</strongs>, and <strongs number="6485">numbered</strongs>them in <strongs number="2923">Telaim</strongs>, two <strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="7273">footmen</strongs>, and <strongs number="6235">ten</strongs><strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>of <strongs number="3063">Judah</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs><strongs number="5704">to</strongs>a <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>of <strongs number="6002">Amalek</strongs>, and laid <strongs number="693">wait</strongs>in the <strongs number="5158">valley</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='17'>And <strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="518">When</strongs><strongs number="859">thou</strongs><em> wast </em><strongs number="6996">little</strongs>in thine own <strongs number="5869">sight</strongs>, <em> wast </em><strongs number="859">thou</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs><em> made </em>the <strongs number="7218">head</strongs>of the <strongs number="7626">tribes</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="4886">anointed</strongs>thee <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="5921">over</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>? </verse>
      <verse number='18'>And the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>thee on a <strongs number="1870">journey</strongs>, and <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="1980">Go</strongs>and utterly <strongs number="2763">destroy</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="2400">sinners</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="6002">Amalekites</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>against them <strongs number="5704">until</strongs>they be <strongs number="3615">consumed</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='20'>And <strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs>, <strongs number="834">Yea</strongs>, I have <strongs number="8085">obeyed</strongs>the <strongs number="6963">voice</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and have <strongs number="1980">gone</strongs>the <strongs number="1870">way</strongs><strongs number="834">which</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>me, and have <strongs number="935">brought</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="90">Agag</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of <strongs number="6002">Amalek</strongs>, and have utterly <strongs number="2763">destroyed</strongs>the <strongs number="6002">Amalekites</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='21'>But the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 7998">spoil</strongs>, <strongs number="6629">sheep</strongs>and <strongs number="1241">oxen</strongs>, the <strongs number="7225">chief</strongs>of the things which should have been utterly <strongs number="2764">destroyed</strongs>, to <strongs number="2076">sacrifice</strongs>unto the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>thy <strongs number="430">God</strongs>in <strongs number="1537">Gilgal</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='22'>And <strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, Hath the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><em> as </em><em> great </em><strongs number="2656">delight</strongs>in burnt <strongs number="5930">offerings</strongs>and <strongs number="2077">sacrifices</strongs>, as in <strongs number="8085">obeying</strongs>the <strongs number="6963">voice</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>? <strongs number="2009">Behold</strongs>, to <strongs number="8085">obey</strongs><em> is </em><strongs number="2896">better</strongs>than <strongs number="4480 2077">sacrifice</strongs>, <em> and </em>to <strongs number="7181">hearken</strongs>than the <strongs number="4480 2459">fat</strongs>of <strongs number="352">rams</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='23'><strongs number="3588">For</strongs><strongs number="4805">rebellion</strongs><em> is </em><em> as </em>the <strongs number="2403">sin</strongs>of <strongs number="7081">witchcraft</strongs>, and <strongs number="6484">stubbornness</strongs><em> is </em><em> as </em><strongs number="205">iniquity</strongs>and <strongs number="8655">idolatry</strongs>. <strongs number="3282">Because</strongs>thou hast <strongs number="3988">rejected</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1697">word</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, he hath also <strongs number="3988">rejected</strongs>thee from <em> being </em><strongs number="4480 4428">king</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='26'>And <strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="7586">Saul</strongs>, I will <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="7725">return</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>thee: <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>thou hast <strongs number="3988">rejected</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1697">word</strongs>of the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>, and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>hath <strongs number="3988">rejected</strongs>thee from <strongs number="4480 1961">being</strongs><strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="5921">over</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='27'>And as <strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs>turned <strongs number="5437">about</strongs>to go <strongs number="1980">away</strongs>, he laid <strongs number="2388">hold</strongs>upon the <strongs number="3671">skirt</strongs>of his <strongs number="4598">mantle</strongs>, and it <strongs number="7167">rent</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='28'>And <strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, The <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>hath <strongs number="7167">rent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="4468">kingdom</strongs>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs><strongs number="4480 5921">from</strongs>thee this <strongs number="3117">day</strongs>, and hath <strongs number="5414">given</strongs>it to a <strongs number="7453">neighbor</strongs>of thine, <em> that </em><em> is </em><strongs number="2896">better</strongs><strongs number="4480">than</strongs>thou. </verse>

      <verse number='32'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="8050">Samuel</strongs>, Bring ye <strongs number="5066">hither</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs>me <strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="90">Agag</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of the <strongs number="6002">Amalekites</strongs>. And <strongs number="90">Agag</strongs><strongs number="1980">came</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him <strongs number="4574">delicately</strongs>.
