But <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="3427">tarried</strongs>still at <strongs number="3389">Jerusalem</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='2'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>in an <strongs number="6256 6153">eveningtide</strongs>, that <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="6965">arose</strongs>from <strongs number="4480 5921">off</strongs>his <strongs number="4904">bed</strongs>, and <strongs number="1980">walked</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>the <strongs number="1406">roof</strongs>of the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>: and <strongs number="4480 5921">from</strongs>the <strongs number="1406">roof</strongs>he <strongs number="7200">saw</strongs>a <strongs number="802">woman</strongs><strongs number="7364">washing</strongs>herself; and the <strongs number="802">woman</strongs><em> was </em><strongs number="3966">very</strongs><strongs number="2896">beautiful</strongs>to <strongs number="4758">look</strongs>upon. </verse>

      <verse number='4'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="4397">messengers</strongs>, and <strongs number="3947">took</strongs>her; and she <strongs number="935">came</strongs>in <strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, and he <strongs number="7901">lay</strongs>with <strongs number="5973">her</strongs>; for <strongs number="1931">she</strongs>was <strongs number="6942">purified</strongs>from her <strongs number="4480 2932">uncleanness</strongs>: and she <strongs number="7725">returned</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>her <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>. </verse>

And <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And when <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs>was <strongs number="935">come</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>him, <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7592">demanded</strongs><em> of </em><em> him </em>how <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="7965">did</strongs>, and how the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="7965">did</strongs>, and how the <strongs number="4421">war</strongs><strongs number="7965">prospered</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='8'>And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>to <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs>, Go <strongs number="3381">down</strongs>to thy <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>, and <strongs number="7364">wash</strongs>thy <strongs number="7272">feet</strongs>. And <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="3318">departed</strongs>out of the king's <strongs number="4480 1004 4428">house</strongs>, and there <strongs number="3318 310">followed</strongs>him a <strongs number="4864">mess</strongs><em> of </em><em> meat </em>from the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='9'>But <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="7901">slept</strongs>at the <strongs number="6607">door</strongs>of the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="1004">house</strongs><strongs number="854">with</strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>of his <strongs number="113">lord</strongs>, and <strongs number="3381">went</strongs><strongs number="3808">not</strongs>down <strongs number="413">to</strongs>his <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>. </verse>

So <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="3427">abode</strongs>in <strongs number="3389">Jerusalem</strongs><strongs number="1931">that</strongs><strongs number="3117">day</strongs>, and the <strongs number="4480 4283">morrow</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='14'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>in the <strongs number="1242">morning</strongs>, that <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="3789">wrote</strongs>a <strongs number="5612">letter</strongs><strongs number="413">to</strongs><strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs>, and <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><em> it </em>by the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>And he <strongs number="3789">wrote</strongs>in the <strongs number="5612">letter</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, <strongs number="3051">Set</strongs>ye <strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="413">in</strongs>the <strongs number="4136 6440">forefront</strongs>of the <strongs number="2389">hottest</strongs><strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>, and <strongs number="7725">retire</strongs>ye <strongs number="4480 310">from</strongs>him, that he may be <strongs number="5221">smitten</strongs>, and <strongs number="4191">die</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs>, when <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="8104 413">observed</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, that he <strongs number="5414">assigned</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>a <strongs number="4725">place</strongs><strongs number="834 8033">where</strongs>he <strongs number="3045">knew</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs><strongs number="2428">valiant</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs><em> were </em>. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>And the <strongs number="376">men</strongs>of the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>went <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fought</strongs><strongs number="854">with</strongs><strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs>: and there <strongs number="5307">fell</strongs><em> some </em><strongs number="4480">of</strongs>the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 5650">servants</strongs>of <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>; and <strongs number="223">Uriah</strongs>the <strongs number="2850">Hittite</strongs><strongs number="4191">died</strongs><strongs number="1571">also</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='18'>Then <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>and <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="1697">things</strongs>concerning the <strongs number="4421">war</strongs>; </verse>
      <verse number='19'>And <strongs number="6680">charged</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="4397">messenger</strongs>, <strongs number="559">saying</strongs>, When thou hast made an <strongs number="3615">end</strongs>of <strongs number="1696">telling</strongs>the <strongs number="1697">matters</strongs>of the <strongs number="4421">war</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>, </verse>
      <verse number='20'>And <strongs number="518">if</strongs>so <strongs number="1961">be</strongs>that the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>'s <strongs number="2534">wrath</strongs><strongs number="5927">arise</strongs>, and he <strongs number="559">say</strongs>unto thee, <strongs number="4069">Wherefore</strongs><strongs number="5066">approached</strongs>ye so nigh <strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>when ye did <strongs number="3898">fight</strongs>? <strongs number="3045">knew</strongs>ye <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs>they would <strongs number="3384">shoot</strongs><strongs number="4480 5921">from</strongs>the <strongs number="2346">wall</strongs>? </verse>

      <verse number='23'>And the <strongs number="4397">messenger</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">Surely</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="1396">prevailed</strongs><strongs number="5921">against</strongs>us, and came <strongs number="3318">out</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>us into the <strongs number="7704">field</strongs>, and we <strongs number="1961">were</strongs><strongs number="5921">upon</strongs>them even <strongs number="5704">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="6607">entering</strongs>of the <strongs number="8179">gate</strongs>. </verse>

      <verse number='25'>Then <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>the <strongs number="4397">messenger</strongs>, <strongs number="3541">Thus</strongs>shalt thou <strongs number="559">say</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs>, Let <strongs number="408">not</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="2088">this</strongs><strongs number="1697">thing</strongs><strongs number="3415 5869">displease</strongs>thee, <strongs number="3588">for</strongs>the <strongs number="2719">sword</strongs><strongs number="398">devoureth</strongs><strongs number="2088">one</strongs>as well as <strongs number="2090">another</strongs>: make thy <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>more <strongs number="2388">strong</strongs><strongs number="413">against</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and <strongs number="2040">overthrow</strongs>it: and <strongs number="2388">encourage</strongs>thou him. </verse>

      <verse number='27'>And when the <strongs number="60">mourning</strongs>was <strongs number="5674">past</strongs>, <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>and <strongs number="622">fetched</strongs>her <strongs number="413">to</strongs>his <strongs number="1004">house</strongs>, and she <strongs number="1961">became</strongs>his <strongs number="802">wife</strongs>, and <strongs number="3205">bore</strongs>him a <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>. But the <strongs number="1697">thing</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>had <strongs number="6213">done</strongs><strongs number="3415 5869">displeased</strongs>the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs>. </verse>
