      <verse number='1'>And it came to <strongs number="1961">pass</strongs><strongs number="310">after</strongs><strongs number="3651">this</strongs>, that the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs>of the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="4191">died</strongs>, and <strongs number="2586">Hanun</strongs>his <strongs number="1121">son</strongs><strongs number="4427">reigned</strongs>in his <strongs number="8478">stead</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='2'>Then <strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, I will <strongs number="6213">show</strongs><strongs number="2617">kindness</strongs><strongs number="5973">unto</strongs><strongs number="2586">Hanun</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">son</strongs>of <strongs number="5176">Nahash</strongs>, <strongs number="834">as</strongs>his <strongs number="1">father</strongs><strongs number="6213">showed</strongs><strongs number="2617">kindness</strongs><strongs number="5973">unto</strongs>me. And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>to <strongs number="5162">comfort</strongs>him by the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of his <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs><strongs number="413">for</strongs>his <strongs number="1">father</strongs>. And <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>'s <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs><strongs number="935">came</strongs>into the <strongs number="776">land</strongs>of the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='3'>And the <strongs number="8269">princes</strongs>of the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs><strongs number="2586">Hanun</strongs>their <strongs number="113">lord</strongs>, <strongs number="5869">Thinkest</strongs>thou that <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>doth <strongs number="3513">honor</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>thy <strongs number="1">father</strongs>, <strongs number="3588">that</strongs>he hath <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="5162">comforters</strongs>unto thee? hath <strongs number="3808">not</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs><em> rather </em><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>his <strongs number="5650">servants</strongs><strongs number="413">unto</strongs>thee, <strongs number="5668">to</strongs><strongs number="2713">search</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>, and to spy it <strongs number="7270">out</strongs>, and to <strongs number="2015">overthrow</strongs>it? </verse>
      <verse number='4'>Wherefore <strongs number="2586">Hanun</strongs><strongs number="3947">took</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>'s <strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>, and shaved <strongs number="1548">off</strongs>the <strongs number="*853"></strongs>one <strongs number="2677">half</strongs>of their <strongs number="2206">beards</strongs>, and cut <strongs number="3772">off</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>their <strongs number="4063">garments</strongs>in the <strongs number="2677">middle</strongs>, <em> even </em><strongs number="5704">to</strongs>their <strongs number="8357">buttocks</strongs>, and sent them <strongs number="7971">away</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='5'>When they <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><em> it </em>unto <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, he <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>to <strongs number="7125">meet</strongs>them, <strongs number="3588">because</strongs>the <strongs number="376">men</strongs><strongs number="1961">were</strongs><strongs number="3966">greatly</strongs><strongs number="3637">ashamed</strongs>: and the <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="3427">Tarry</strongs>at <strongs number="3405">Jericho</strongs><strongs number="5704">until</strongs>your <strongs number="2206">beards</strongs>be <strongs number="6779">grown</strongs>, and <em> then </em><strongs number="7725">return</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='6'>And when the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>they <strongs number="887">stank</strongs>before <strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>and <strongs number="7936">hired</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>of <strongs number="1050">Beth</strongs>-rehob, and the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>of <strongs number="6678">Zoba</strongs>, <strongs number="6242">twenty</strongs><strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="7273">footmen</strongs>, and of <strongs number="4428">king</strongs><strongs number="4601">Maacah</strongs>a <strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>, and of <strongs number="382">Ish</strongs>-tob <strongs number="8147 6240">twelve</strongs><strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="376">men</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='7'>And when <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="8085">heard</strongs>of <em> it </em>, he <strongs number="7971">sent</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs>, and <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="6635">host</strongs>of the mighty <strongs number="1368">men</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='8'>And the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>came <strongs number="3318">out</strongs>, and put the <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>in <strongs number="6186">array</strongs>at the <strongs number="6607">entering</strongs>in of the <strongs number="8179">gate</strongs>: and the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>of <strongs number="6678">Zoba</strongs>, and of <strongs number="7340">Rehob</strongs>, and <strongs number="382">Ishtob</strongs>, and <strongs number="4601">Maacah</strongs>, <em> were </em>by <strongs number="905">themselves</strongs>in the <strongs number="7704">field</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='9'>When <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>the <strongs number="6440">front</strongs>of the <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs><strongs number="1961">was</strongs><strongs number="413">against</strongs>him <strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>and <strongs number="4480 268">behind</strongs>, he <strongs number="977">chose</strongs>of <strongs number="4480 3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="977">choice</strongs><em> men </em>of <strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and put <em> them </em>in <strongs number="6186">array</strongs><strongs number="7125">against</strongs>the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>: </verse>
      <verse number='10'>And the <strongs number="3499">rest</strongs>of the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>he <strongs number="5414">delivered</strongs>into the <strongs number="3027">hand</strongs>of <strongs number="52">Abishai</strongs>his <strongs number="251">brother</strongs>, that he might put <em> them </em>in <strongs number="6186">array</strongs><strongs number="7125">against</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='11'>And he <strongs number="559">said</strongs>, <strongs number="518">If</strongs>the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>be too <strongs number="2388">strong</strongs><strongs number="4480">for</strongs>me, then thou <strongs number="1961">shalt</strongs><strongs number="3444">help</strongs>me: but <strongs number="518">if</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>be too <strongs number="2388">strong</strongs><strongs number="4480">for</strongs>thee, then I will <strongs number="1980">come</strongs>and <strongs number="3467">help</strongs>thee. </verse>
      <verse number='12'>Be of good <strongs number="2388">courage</strongs>, and let us play the <strongs number="2388">men</strongs><strongs number="1157">for</strongs>our <strongs number="5971">people</strongs>, and <strongs number="1157">for</strongs>the <strongs number="5892">cities</strongs>of our <strongs number="430">God</strongs>: and the <strongs number="3068">LORD</strongs><strongs number="6213">do</strongs>that which <strongs number="5869">seemeth</strongs>him <strongs number="2896">good</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='13'>And <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs>drew <strongs number="5066">nigh</strongs>, and the <strongs number="5971">people</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him, unto the <strongs number="4421">battle</strongs>against the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>: and they <strongs number="5127">fled</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='14'>And when the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>were <strongs number="5127">fled</strongs>, then <strongs number="5127">fled</strongs>they also <strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs><strongs number="52">Abishai</strongs>, and <strongs number="935">entered</strongs>into the <strongs number="5892">city</strongs>. So <strongs number="3097">Joab</strongs><strongs number="7725">returned</strongs><strongs number="4480 5921">from</strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>, and <strongs number="935">came</strongs>to <strongs number="3389">Jerusalem</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='15'>And when the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>they were <strongs number="5062">smitten</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, they gathered <strongs number="622">themselves</strongs><strongs number="3162">together</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='16'>And <strongs number="1928">Hadarezer</strongs><strongs number="7971">sent</strongs>, and brought <strongs number="3318">out</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs><strongs number="834">that</strongs><em> were </em><strongs number="4480 5676">beyond</strongs>the <strongs number="5104">river</strongs>: and they <strongs number="935">came</strongs>to <strongs number="2431">Helam</strongs>; and <strongs number="7731">Shobach</strongs>the <strongs number="8269">captain</strongs>of the <strongs number="6635">host</strongs>of <strongs number="1928">Hadarezer</strongs><em> went </em><strongs number="6440">before</strongs>them. </verse>
      <verse number='17'>And when it was <strongs number="5046">told</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, he gathered all Israel <strongs number="622 *853 3605 3478">together</strongs>, and passed <strongs number="5674">over</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs><strongs number="3383">Jordan</strongs>, and <strongs number="935">came</strongs>to <strongs number="2431">Helam</strongs>. And the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs>set themselves in <strongs number="6186">array</strongs><strongs number="7125">against</strongs><strongs number="1732">David</strongs>, and <strongs number="3898">fought</strongs><strongs number="5973">with</strongs>him. </verse>
      <verse number='18'>And the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs><strongs number="5127">fled</strongs><strongs number="4480 6440">before</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>; and <strongs number="1732">David</strongs><strongs number="2026">slew</strongs><em> the </em><em> men </em><em> of </em><strongs number="7651">seven</strongs><strongs number="3967">hundred</strongs><strongs number="7393">chariots</strongs>of the <strongs number="4480 758">Syrians</strongs>, and <strongs number="705">forty</strongs><strongs number="505">thousand</strongs><strongs number="6571">horsemen</strongs>, and <strongs number="5221">smote</strongs><strongs number="7731">Shobach</strongs>the <strongs number="8269">captain</strongs>of their <strongs number="6635">host</strongs>, who <strongs number="4191">died</strongs><strongs number="8033">there</strongs>. </verse>
      <verse number='19'>And when <strongs number="3605">all</strongs>the <strongs number="4428">kings</strongs><em> that </em><em> were </em><strongs number="5650">servants</strongs>to <strongs number="1928">Hadarezer</strongs><strongs number="7200">saw</strongs><strongs number="3588">that</strongs>they were <strongs number="5062">smitten</strongs><strongs number="6440">before</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, they made <strongs number="7999">peace</strongs><strongs number="854">with</strongs><strongs number="3478">Israel</strongs>, and <strongs number="5647">served</strongs>them. So the <strongs number="758">Syrians</strongs><strongs number="3372">feared</strongs>to <strongs number="3467">help</strongs><strongs number="*853"></strongs>the <strongs number="1121">children</strongs>of <strongs number="5983">Ammon</strongs>any <strongs number="5750">more</strongs>. </verse>
