Now there wasa manof Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the sonof Abiel, the sonof Zeror, the sonof Bechorath, the sonof Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty manof power. And he hada son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was notamong the childrenof Israela goodlierpersonthanhe: from his shouldersand upward he was higherthan anyof the people. And the assesof KishSaul's fatherwere lost. And KishsaidtoSaulhis son, Takenowoneof the servantswiththee, and arise, goseekthe asses. And he passed throughmountEphraim, and passed throughthe landof Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed throughthe landof Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed throughthe landof the Benjamites, but they found them not. And when theywere cometo the landof Zuph, Saulsaidto his servantthat was withhim, Come, and let us return; lestmy fatherleave caring forthe asses, and take thoughtfor us. And he saidunto him, Beholdnow, there is in thiscitya manof God, and he is an honorableman; allthathe saithcometh surely to pass: nowlet us gothither; peradventurehe can showus our waythatwe should go. Then saidSaulto his servant, But, behold, if we go, whatshall we bringthe man? forthe breadis spentin our vessels, and there is nota presentto bringto the manof God: whathave we? And the servantansweredSaulagain, and said, Behold, I have hereat handthe fourth partof a shekelof silver: that will I giveto the manof God, to tellus our way. ( Formerlyin Israel, when a manwentto inquireof God, thushe spoke, Come, and let us gotothe seer: for he that is now called a Prophetwas formerlycalleda Seer.) Then saidSaulto his servant, Wellsaid; come, let us go. So they wentuntothe citywherethe manof God was . And as theywent upthe hillto the city, theyfoundyoung maidensgoing outto drawwater, and saidunto them, Isthe seerhere? And they answeredthem, and said, He is; behold, he is beforeyou: make hastenow, forhe cametodayto the city; for there is a sacrificeof the peopletodayin the high place: As soon as ye be comeinto the city, ye shall straightwayfindhim, beforehe go upto the high placeto eat: forthe peoplewill noteatuntilhe come, becausehedoth blessthe sacrifice; and afterwardsthey eatthat be bidden. Nowtherefore get you up; forabout this timeye shall findhim. And they went upinto the city: and when theywere comeintothe city, behold, Samuelcame outagainstthem, for to go upto the high place. Now the LORDhad toldSamuelinhis earadaybeforeSaulcame, saying, Tomorrowabout this timeI will sendthee a manout of the landof Benjamin, and thou shalt anointhim to be captainovermy peopleIsrael, that he may savemy peopleout of the handof the Philistines: forI have looked uponmy people, becausetheir cryis comeunto me. And when SamuelsawSaul, the LORDsaidunto him, Beholdthe manwhomI spoketothee of! this sameshall reignover my people. And as for thine assesthat were lostthreedaysago, setnotthy mindon them; forthey are found. And on whom is allthe desireof Israel? Is it noton thee, and on allthy father's house? And Saulansweredand said, Am notIa Benjamite, of the smallestof the tribesof Israel? and my familythe leastof allthe familiesof the tribeof Benjamin? whereforethen speakestthou sotome? And SamueltookSauland his servant, and broughtthem into the parlor, and made them sitin the chiefestplaceamong them that were bidden, which were about thirtypersons.
