And he sanctifiedJesseand his sons, and calledthem to the sacrifice. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked onEliab, and said, Surelythe LORD's anointed is beforehim. And he said, There remainethyetthe youngest, and, behold, he keepeththe sheep. And SamuelsaiduntoJesse, Sendand fetchhim: forwe will notsit downtillhe comehither. And he sent, and broughthim in. Now he was ruddy, and withalof a beautifulcountenance, and goodlyto look to. And the LORDsaid, Arise, anointhim: forthis is he. Then Samueltookthe hornof oil, and anointedhim in the midstof his brethren: and the Spiritof the LORDcameuponDavidfrom that dayforward. So Samuelrose up, and wentto Ramah. But the Spiritof the LORDdepartedfromSaul, and an evilspiritfromthe LORDtroubledhim. And Saul's servantssaiduntohim, Beholdnow, an evilspiritfrom Godtroubleththee. Let our lordnowcommandthy servants, which are beforethee, to seek outa man, who is a cunningplayeron a harp: and it shall come to pass, whenthe evilspiritfrom Godis uponthee, that he shall playwith his hand, and thou shalt be well. And Saulsaiduntohis servants, Provideme nowa manthat can playwell, and bring him tome. Then answeredoneof the servants, and said, Behold, I have seena sonof Jessethe Bethlehemite, that is cunningin playing, and a mightyvaliant man, and a manof war, and prudentin matters, and a comelyperson, and the LORD is withhim. Wherefore SaulsentmessengersuntoJesse, and said, Sendme Davidthy son, which is with the sheep. And Jessetookan ass laden with bread, and a bottleof wine, and akid, and sent them byDavidhis sonuntoSaul. And DavidcametoSaul, and stoodbeforehim: and he lovedhim greatly; and he becamehis armorbearer. And SaulsenttoJesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, standbeforeme; forhe hath foundfavorin my sight. And it came to pass, whenthe evil spiritfrom Godwas uponSaul, that Davidtooka harp, and playedwith his hand: so Saulwas refreshed, and was well, and the evilspiritdepartedfromhim.
