And SamuelsaiduntoallIsrael, Behold, I have hearkenedunto your voicein allthatye saidunto me, and have made a kingoveryou. And now, behold, the kingwalkethbeforeyou: and Iam oldand grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are withyou: and Ihave walkedbeforeyou from my childhooduntothisday. Behold, here I am : witnessagainst me beforethe LORD, and beforehis anointed: whoseoxhave I taken? or whoseasshave I taken? or whomhave I defrauded? whomhave I oppressed? or of whose handhave I received any bribeto blindmine eyestherewith? and I will restoreit you. And they said, Thou hast notdefraudedus, noroppressedus, neitherhast thou takenaughtof any man's hand. And he saiduntothem, The LORD is witnessagainst you, and his anointed is witnessthisday, thatye have notfoundaughtin my hand. And they answered, He is witness. And Samuelsaiduntothe people, It is the LORDthatadvancedMosesand Aaron, and thatbroughtyour fathersup out of the landof Egypt. Nowtherefore stand still, that I may reasonwithyou beforethe LORDof allthe righteous actsof the LORD, whichhe didtoyou and toyour fathers. WhenJacobwas comeinto Egypt, and your fatherscrieduntothe LORD, then the LORDsentMosesand Aaron, which brought forthyour fathersout of Egypt, and made them dwellin thisplace. And when they forgotthe LORDtheir God, he soldthem into the handof Sisera, captainof the hostof Hazor, and into the handof the Philistines, and into the handof the kingof Moab, and they foughtagainst them. And they crieduntothe LORD, and said, We have sinned, becausewe have forsakenthe LORD, and have servedBaalimand Ashtaroth: but nowdeliverus out of the handof our enemies, and we will servethee. And the LORDsentJerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and deliveredyou out of the handof your enemieson every side, and ye dwelledsafe. And when ye sawthatNahashthe kingof the childrenof Ammoncameagainstyou, ye saidunto me, Nay; buta kingshall reignoverus: when the LORDyour God was your king. Nowtherefore beholdthe kingwhomye have chosen, and whomye have desired! and, behold, the LORDhath seta kingoveryou. Ifye will fearthe LORD, and servehim, and obeyhis voice, and notrebel againstthe commandmentof the LORD, then shall bothyeand alsothe kingthatreignethoveryou continuefollowingthe LORDyour God: But ifye will notobeythe voiceof the LORD, but rebel againstthe commandmentof the LORD, then shall the handof the LORDbeagainst you, as it was against your fathers. Nowthereforestandand seethisgreatthing, whichthe LORDwill dobefore your eyes. Is it notwheatharvesttoday? I will calluntothe LORD, and he shall sendthunderand rain; that ye may perceiveand seethatyour wickedness is great, whichye have donein the sightof the LORD, in askingyou a king. So Samuelcalleduntothe LORD; and the LORDsentthunderand rainthatday: and allthe peoplegreatlyfearedthe LORDand Samuel. And allthe peoplesaiduntoSamuel, Prayforthy servantsuntothe LORDthy God, that we dienot: forwe have addeduntoallour sins this evil, to askus a king. And Samuelsaiduntothe people, Fearnot: yehave doneallthiswickedness: yetturn not asidefrom followingthe LORD, but servethe LORDwith allyour heart; And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go aftervain things , whichcannotprofitnordeliver; forthey are vain. Forthe LORDwill notforsakehis peoplefor his greatname's sake: becauseit hath pleasedthe LORDto makeyou his people. Moreoveras for me, God forbidthat I should sinagainst the LORDin ceasingto prayforyou: but I will teachyou the goodand the rightway: Onlyfearthe LORD, and servehim in truthwith allyour heart: forconsiderhowgreat things he hath doneforyou. But ifye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, bothyeandyour king.
