Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and allthe peoplethat were withhim, rose up early, and pitchedbesidethe wellof Harod: so that the hostof the Midianiteswereon the north sideof them, by the hillof Moreh, in the valley. And the LORDsaiduntoGideon, The peoplethat are withthee are too manyfor me to givethe Midianitesinto their hands, lestIsraelvaunt themselvesagainstme, saying, Mine own handhath savedme. Nowtherefore go to, proclaimin the earsof the people, saying, Whosoever is fearfuland afraid, let him returnand depart earlyfrom mountGilead. And there returnedofthe peopletwentyand twothousand; and there remainedtenthousand. And the LORDsaiduntoGideon, The people are yet too many; bring them downuntothe water, and I will trythem for thee there: and it shall be, that of whomI sayuntothee, Thisshall gowiththee, the sameshall gowiththee; and of whomsoeverI sayuntothee, Thisshall notgowiththee, the sameshall notgo. So he brought downthe peopleuntothe water: and the LORDsaiduntoGideon, Every onethatlappethofthe waterwith his tongue, asa doglappeth, him shalt thou setby himself; likewise every onethatboweth downuponhis kneesto drink. And the numberof them that lapped, putting their handtotheir mouth, werethreehundredmen: but allthe restof the peoplebowed downupontheir kneesto drinkwater. And the LORDsaiduntoGideon, By the threehundredmenthat lappedwill I saveyou, and deliverthe Midianitesinto thine hand: and let allthe other peoplegoevery manunto his place. So the peopletookvictualsin their hand, and their trumpets: and he sentall the rest of Israelevery manunto his tent, and retainedthose threehundredmen: and the hostof Midianwasbeneathhim in the valley. And it came to passthe samenight, that the LORDsaiduntohim, Arise, get thee downunto the host; forI have deliveredit into thine hand. But ifthoufearto go down, gothouwith Phurahthy servantdowntothe host: And thou shalt hearwhatthey say; and afterwardshall thine handsbe strengthenedto go downunto the host. Then went he downwith Phurahhis servantuntothe outsideof the armed menthat were in the host. And the Midianitesand the Amalekitesand allthe childrenof the eastlayalong in the valleylike grasshoppersfor multitude; and their camels were withoutnumber, as the sandbythe seasidefor multitude. And when Gideonwas come, behold, there was a manthat tolda dreamunto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreameda dream, and, lo, a cakeof barleybreadtumbledinto the hostof Midian, and cameuntoa tent, and smoteit that it fell, and overturnedit, that the tentlay along. And his fellowansweredand said, This is nothing elsesavethe swordof Gideonthe sonof Joash, a manof Israel: for into his handhath GoddeliveredMidian, and allthe host. And it was so , when Gideonheardthe tellingof the dream, and the interpretationthereof, that he worshiped, and returnedintothe hostof Israel, and said, Arise; forthe LORDhath deliveredinto your handthe hostof Midian. And he dividedthe threehundredmen into threecompanies, and he puta trumpetin every man's hand, with emptypitchers, and lampswithinthe pitchers. And he saiduntothem, Lookonme, and dolikewise: and, behold, when Icometo the outsideof the camp, it shall be that , asI do, soshall ye do. When I blowwith a trumpet, Iand allthat are withme, then blowyethe trumpetsalsoon every sideof allthe camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon. So Gideon, and the hundredmenthat were withhim, cameunto the outsideof the campin the beginningof the middlewatch; and they had butnewly setthe watch: and they blewthe trumpets, and brokethe pitchersthat were in their hands. And the threecompaniesblewthe trumpets, and brokethe pitchers, and heldthe lampsin their lefthands, and the trumpetsin their righthandsto blow withal : and they cried, The swordof the LORD, and of Gideon. And they stoodevery manin his placeround aboutthe camp: and allthe hostran, and cried, and fled. And the threehundredblewthe trumpets, and the LORDsetevery man's swordagainst his fellow, even throughout allthe host: and the hostfledtoBeth-shittah in Zererath, and tothe borderof Abel-meholah, untoTabbath. And the menof Israelgathered themselves togetherout of Naphtali, and out ofAsher, and out ofallManasseh, and pursuedafterthe Midianites. And Gideonsentmessengersthroughout allmountEphraim, saying, Come downagainstthe Midianites, and takebefore them the watersuntoBeth-barah and Jordan. Then allthe menof Ephraimgathered themselves together, and tookthe watersuntoBeth-barah and Jordan. And they tooktwoprincesof the Midianites, Oreband Zeeb; and they slewOrebupon the rockOreb, and Zeebthey slewat the winepressof Zeeb, and pursuedMidian, and broughtthe headsof Oreband ZeebtoGideonon the other sideJordan.
