And an angelof the LORDcame upfromGilgaltoBochim, and said, I made you to go upout of Egypt, and have broughtyou untothe landwhichI sworeunto your fathers; and I said, I will neverbreakmy covenantwithyou. And yeshall makenoleaguewith the inhabitantsof thisland; ye shall throw downtheir altars: but ye have notobeyedmy voice: whyhave ye donethis? Wherefore I alsosaid, I will notdrive them outfrom beforeyou; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their godsshall bea snareunto you. And it came to pass, when the angelof the LORDspokethesewordsuntoallthe childrenof Israel, that the peoplelifted uptheir voice, and wept. And they calledthe nameof thatplaceBochim: and they sacrificedthereunto the LORD. And when Joshuahad let the peoplego, the childrenof Israelwentevery manunto his inheritanceto possessthe land. And the peopleservedthe LORDallthe daysof Joshua, and allthe daysof the eldersthatoutlivedJoshua, whohad seenallthe greatworksof the LORD, thathe didfor Israel. And Joshuathe sonof Nun, the servantof the LORD, died, being a hundredand tenyearsold. And they buriedhim in the borderof his inheritancein Timnath-heres, in the mountof Ephraim, on the north sideof the hillGaash. And alsoallthatgenerationwere gathereduntotheir fathers: and there aroseanothergenerationafterthem, whichknewnotthe LORD, nor yetthe workswhichhe had donefor Israel. And the childrenof Israeldidevilin the sightof the LORD, and servedBaalim: And they forsookthe LORDGodof their fathers, which brought them outof the landof Egypt, and followedothergods, of the godsof the peoplethat were round aboutthem, and bowed themselvesunto them, and provokedthe LORDto anger. And they forsookthe LORD, and servedBaaland Ashtaroth. And the angerof the LORDwas hotagainst Israel, and he deliveredthem into the handsof spoilersthat spoiledthem, and he soldthem into the handsof their enemiesround about, so that they couldnotany longerstandbeforetheir enemies. Whithersoeverthey went out, the handof the LORDwasagainst them for evil, asthe LORDhad said, and asthe LORDhad swornunto them: and they were greatlydistressed. Nevertheless the LORDraised upjudges, which deliveredthem out of the handof those that spoiledthem. And yetthey would nothearkenuntotheir judges, butthey went a whoringafterothergods, and bowed themselvesunto them: they turnedquicklyout ofthe waywhichtheir fatherswalkedin, obeyingthe commandmentsof the LORD; but they didnotso. And whenthe LORDraised them upjudges, then the LORDwaswiththe judge, and deliveredthem out of the handof their enemiesallthe daysof the judge: forit repentedthe LORDbecause of their groaningsby reason of themthat oppressedthem and vexedthem. And it came to pass, when the judgewas dead, that they returned, and corrupted themselves more than their fathers, in followingothergodsto servethem, and to bow downunto them; they ceasednotfrom their own doings, nor from their stubborn way. And the angerof the LORDwas hotagainst Israel; and he said, Becausethatthispeoplehath transgressedmy covenantwhichI commandedtheir fathers, and have nothearkenedunto my voice; Ialsowill nothenceforthdrive outanyfrom beforethem ofthe nationswhichJoshualeftwhen he died: Thatthrough them I may proveIsrael, whether theywill keepthe wayof the LORDto walktherein, astheir fathersdid keep it , ornot. Therefore the LORDleftthosenations, withoutdriving them outhastily; neitherdeliveredhe them into the handof Joshua.
