Then wentSamsonto Gaza, and sawtherea harlot, and went inuntoher. And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samsonis comehither. And they compassed him in, and laid waitfor him allnightin the gateof the city, and were quietallthe night, saying, In the morning, whenit is day, we shall killhim. And Samsonlaytillmidnight, and aroseat midnight, and tookthe doorsof the gateof the city, and the twoposts, and went awaywith them, bar and all, and put them uponhis shoulders, and carried them uptothe topof a hillthat is beforeHebron. And it came to passafterward, that he loveda womanin the valleyof Sorek, whose name was Delilah. And the lordsof the Philistinescame upuntoher, and saidunto her, Enticehim, and seewhereinhis greatstrength lieth , and by what means we may prevailagainst him, that we may bindhim to afflicthim: and wewill givethee every oneof us eleven hundred pieces of silver. And DelilahsaidtoSamson, Tellme, I pray thee, whereinthy greatstrength lieth , and wherewiththou mightest be boundto afflictthee. And Samsonsaiduntoher, Ifthey bindme with sevengreenwithesthatwere neverdried, then shall I be weak, and beas anotherman. Then the lordsof the Philistinesbrought upto her sevengreenwitheswhichhad notbeen dried, and she boundhim with them. Now there were men lying in wait, abidingwith her in the chamber. And she saiduntohim, The Philistines be uponthee, Samson. And he brokethe withes, asa threadof towis brokenwhen it toucheththe fire. So his strengthwas notknown. And DelilahsaiduntoSamson, Behold, thou hast mockedme, and toldme lies: nowtellme, I pray thee, wherewiththou mightest be bound. And he saiduntoher, Ifthey bind me fastwith newropesthatneverwere occupied, then shall I be weak, and beas anotherman. Delilahtherefore tooknewropes, and boundhim therewith, and saiduntohim, The Philistines be uponthee, Samson. And there were liers in waitabidingin the chamber. And he brokethem from offhis armslike a thread. And DelilahsaiduntoSamson, Hithertothou hast mockedme, and toldme lies: tellme wherewiththou mightest be bound. And he saiduntoher, Ifthou weavestthe sevenlocksof my headwiththe web. And she fastened it with the pin, and saiduntohim, The Philistines be uponthee, Samson. And he awakedout of his sleep, and went awaywith the pinof the beam, and with the web. And she saiduntohim, Howcanst thou say, I lovethee, when thine heart is notwithme? thou hast mockedme these threetimes, and hast nottoldme whereinthy greatstrength lieth . And it came to pass, whenshe pressedhim dailywith her words, and urgedhim, so that his soulwas vexedunto death; That he toldher allhis heart, and saidunto her, There hath notcomea razoruponmine head; forI have been a Nazariteunto Godfrom my mother's womb: ifI be shaven, then my strengthwill gofromme, and I shall become weak, and belike any other man. And when Delilahsawthathe had toldher allhis heart, she sentand calledfor the lordsof the Philistines, saying, Come upthis once, forhe hath showedme allhis heart. Then the lordsof the Philistinescame upuntoher, and broughtmoneyin their hand. And she made him sleepuponher knees; and she calledfor a man, and she caused him to shave offthe sevenlocksof his head; and she beganto afflicthim, and his strengthwentfromhim. And she said, The Philistines be uponthee, Samson. And he awokeout of his sleep, and said, I will go outas at other times before, and shake myself. And heknewnotthatthe LORDwas departedfromhim. But the Philistinestookhim, and put outhis eyes, and brought him downto Gaza, and boundhim with fetters of brass; and he didgrindin the prisonhouse. Howbeit the hairof his headbeganto grow againafterhe was shaven. Then the lordsof the Philistinesgathered them togetherfor to offera greatsacrificeunto Dagontheir god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our godhath deliveredSamsonour enemyinto our hand. And when the peoplesawhim, they praisedtheir god: forthey said, Our godhath deliveredinto our handsour enemy, and the destroyerof our country, whichslew manyof us. And it came to pass, whentheir heartswere merry, that they said, Callfor Samson, that he may make us sport. And they calledfor Samsonout of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they sethim betweenthe pillars. And Samsonsaiduntothe ladthat heldhim by the hand, Sufferme that I may feelthe pillarswhereuponthe housestandeth, that I may leanuponthem. Now the housewas fullof menand women; and allthe lordsof the Philistines were there; and there were uponthe roofabout threethousandmenand women, that beheldwhile Samsonmade sport. And Samsoncalleduntothe LORD, and said, O LordGOD, rememberme, I pray thee, and strengthenme, I pray thee, onlythisonce, O God, that I may be at once avengedof the Philistinesfor my twoeyes. And Samsontook holdof the twomiddlepillarsuponwhichthe housestood, and onwhich it was borne up, of the onewith his right hand, and of the otherwith his left. And Samsonsaid, Let mediewiththe Philistines. And he bowedhimself with all his might; and the housefelluponthe lords, and uponallthe peoplethat were therein.
