But her fatherwould notsufferhim to go in. And her fathersaid, I verily thoughtthatthou hadst utterly hatedher; therefore I gaveher to thy companion: is nother youngersisterfairerthanshe? takeher, I pray thee, insteadof her. And Samsonsaidconcerning them, Nowshall I be more blamelessthan the Philistines, thoughIdothem a displeasure. And Samsonwentand caughtthreehundredfoxes, and tookfirebrands, and turnedtailtotail, and putafirebrandin the midstbetweentwotails. And when he had setthe brandson fire, he let them gointo the standing cornof the Philistines, and burnt upboth the shocks, and alsothe standing corn, withthe vineyards and olives. Then the Philistinessaid, Whohath donethis? And they answered, Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, becausehe had takenhis wife, and givenher to his companion. And the Philistinescame up, and burnther and her fatherwith fire. And Samsonsaidunto them, Thoughye have donethis, yetwill I be avengedof you, and after thatI will cease. And he smotethem hipandthighwith a greatslaughter: and he went downand dweltin the topof the rockEtam. Then the Philistineswent up, and pitchedin Judah, and spread themselvesin Lehi. And the menof Judahsaid, Whyare ye come upagainstus? And they answered, To bindSamsonare we come up, to doto him ashe hath doneto us. Then threethousandmenof Judahwenttothe topof the rockEtam, and saidto Samson, Knowestthou notthatthe Philistines are rulersover us? what is this that thou hast doneunto us? And he saidunto them, Asthey didunto me, sohave I doneunto them. And they saidunto him, We are come downto bindthee, that we may deliverthee into the handof the Philistines. And Samsonsaidunto them, Swearunto me, thatye will not fallupon me yourselves. And they spokeunto him, saying, No; butwe will bind thee fast, and deliverthee into their hand: but surely we will not killthee. And they boundhim with twonewcords, and brought him upfromthe rock. And when hecameuntoLehi, the Philistinesshoutedagainsthim: and the Spiritof the LORDcame mightilyuponhim, and the cordsthat were uponhis armsbecameas flaxthatwas burntwith fire, and his bandsloosedfrom offhis hands. And he founda newjawboneof an ass, and put forthhis hand, and tookit, and slewa thousandmentherewith. And Samsonsaid, With the jawboneof an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jawof an asshave I slaina thousandmen. And it came to pass, when he had made an endof speaking, that he cast awaythe jawboneout of his hand, and calledthatplaceRamath-lehi. And he was sore athirst, and calledonthe LORD, and said, Thouhast giventhisgreatdeliveranceinto the handof thy servant: and nowshall I diefor thirst, and fallinto the handof the uncircumcised? But Godcleaveda hollow placethat was in the jaw, and there camewatertherefrom; and when he had drunk, his spiritcame again, and he revived: whereforehe calledthe namethereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehiuntothisday. And he judgedIsraelin the daysof the Philistinestwentyyears.
