And it came to pass, when Jabinkingof Hazorhad heard those things , that he senttoJobabkingof Madon, and tothe kingof Shimron, and tothe kingof Achshaph, And tothe kingsthat were on the northof the mountains, and of the plainssouthof Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the bordersof Doron the west, And to the Canaaniteon the eastand on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusitein the mountains, and to the HiviteunderHermonin the landof Mizpeh. And they went out, theyand alltheir hostswiththem, muchpeople, even as the sandthat is uponthe seashorein multitude, with horsesand chariotsverymany. And when allthesekingswere met together, they cameand pitchedtogetheratthe watersof Merom, to fightagainstIsrael. And the LORDsaiduntoJoshua, Be notafraidbecause ofthem: fortomorrowabout thistimewill Ideliver them upallslainbeforeIsrael: thou shalt hamstringtheir horses, and burntheir chariotswith fire. So Joshuacame, and allthe peopleof warwithhim, againstthem bythe watersof Meromsuddenly; and they fellupon them. And the LORDdeliveredthem into the handof Israel, who smotethem, and chasedthem untogreatZidon, and untoMisrephoth-maim, and untothe valleyof Mizpeheastward; and they smotethem, untilthey leftthem noneremaining. And Joshuadidunto them asthe LORDbadehim: he hamstrungtheir horses, and burnttheir chariotswith fire. And Joshuaat thattimeturned back, and tookHazor, and smotethe kingthereof with the sword: forHazorformerlywas the headof allthosekingdoms. And they smoteallthe soulsthat were therein with the edgeof the sword, utterly destroying them : there was notanyleftto breathe: and he burntHazorwith fire. And allthe citiesof thosekings, and allthe kingsof them, did Joshuatake, and smotethem with the edgeof the sword, and he utterly destroyedthem, asMosesthe servantof the LORDcommanded. But as for the citiesthat stood stillintheir strength, Israelburnednoneof them, saveHazoronly; that did Joshuaburn. And allthe spoilof thesecities, and the cattle, the childrenof Israeltook for a preyunto themselves; buteverymanthey smotewith the edgeof the sword, untilthey had destroyedthem, neitherleftthey anyto breathe. Asthe LORDcommandedMoseshis servant, sodid MosescommandJoshua, and sodidJoshua; he left nothing undoneof allthatthe LORDcommandedMoses. So Joshuatookallthatland, the hills, and allthe south country, and allthe landof Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountainof Israel, and the valleyof the same; Even fromthe mountHalak, that goeth upto Seir, even untoBaal-gad in the valleyof LebanonundermountHermon: and alltheir kingshe took, and smotethem, and slewthem. Joshuamadewara longtimewithallthosekings. There wasnota citythatmade peacewiththe childrenof Israel, savethe Hivitesthe inhabitantsof Gibeon: all other they tookin battle. Forit wasofthe LORDto hardentheir hearts, that they should come againstIsraelin battle, thathe might destroythem utterly, and that they might havenofavor, butthathe might destroythem, asthe LORDcommandedMoses. And at thattimecameJoshua, and cut offthe Anakimsfromthe mountains, fromHebron, fromDebir, fromAnab, and from allthe mountainsof Judah, and from allthe mountainsof Israel: Joshuadestroyedthem utterly withtheir cities. There was noneof the Anakimsleftin the landof the childrenof Israel: onlyin Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained. So Joshuatookthe wholeland, according to allthatthe LORDsaiduntoMoses; and Joshuagaveit for an inheritanceunto Israelaccording to their divisionsby their tribes. And the landrestedfrom war.
