Butifanywidowhavechildrenornephews, let them learnfirstto show pietyathome, andto requitetheir parents: forthatisgoodandacceptablebeforeGod. Nowshe that is a widowindeed, anddesolate, trustethinGod, andcontinuethin supplicationsandprayersnightandday. Butshe that liveth in pleasureis deadwhile she liveth. Andthese thingsgive in charge, thatthey may beblameless. Butifanyprovide not forhis own, andespeciallyfor those of his own house, he hath deniedthefaith, andisworsethan an infidel. Let nota widowbe taken into the numberunderthreescoreyearsold, having beenthe wifeof oneman, Well reported offorgoodworks; ifshe have brought up children, ifshe have lodged strangers, ifshe have washedthe saints' feet, ifshe have relievedthe afflicted, ifshe have diligently followedeverygoodwork. Butthe youngerwidowsrefuse: forwhenthey have begun to wax wanton againstChrist, they willmarry; Havingdamnation, becausethey have cast offtheir firstfaith. Andwithalthey learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; andnotonlyidle, buttattlersalsoandbusybodies, speakingthings which they oughtnot. I willthereforethat the younger womenmarry, bear children, guide the house, givenoneoccasionto theadversaryto speak reproachfully. Forsomeare alreadyturned asideafterSatan. If anymanorwoman that believethhavewidows, let them relievethem, andlet notthechurchbe charged; thatit may relievethem that are widowsindeed. Let theeldersthat rulewellbe counted worthyof doublehonor, especiallythey who laborinthe wordanddoctrine. FortheScripturesaith, Thou shalt notmuzzlethe oxthat treadeth outthe corn. And, Thelaborer is worthyof hisreward. Againstan elderreceivenotan accusation, butbeforetwoorthreewitnesses. Them that sinrebukebeforeall, thatothersalsomay fear. I charge thee beforeGod, andthe LordJesusChrist, andtheelectangels, thatthou observethese thingswithoutpreferring one before another, doingnothingbypartiality. Layhandssuddenlyon no man, neitherbe partakerof other men's sins: keepthyselfpure. Drink no longer water, butusea littlewinefor thy stomach's sakeandthineofteninfirmities. Somemen's sinsareopen beforehand, going beforetojudgment; andsome men theyfollow after. Likewisealsothegoodworks of some aremanifest beforehand; andthey that areotherwisecannotbe hid.
