NowIPaulmyselfbeseechyoubythemeeknessandgentlenessof Christ, whoinpresenceambaseamongyou, butbeing absentam boldtowardyou: ButI beseech you, that I may notbe boldwhen I am presentwith that confidence, wherewithI thinkto be boldagainstsome, which thinkof usasif we walkedaccordingto the flesh. Forthough we walkinthe flesh, we do notwarafterthe flesh: ( Fortheweaponsof ourwarfare are notcarnal, butmightythrough Godtothe pulling downof strongholds;) Casting downimaginations, andeveryhigh thingthat exalteth itselfagainsttheknowledgeof God, andbringing into captivityeverythoughttotheobedienceof Christ; Andhavingina readinessto revengealldisobedience, whenyourobedienceis fulfilled. Do ye look onthingsafterthe outward appearance? If any mantrustto himselfthat he isChrist's, let him ofhimselfthinkthisagain, that, ashe is Christ's, evenso are weChrist's. ForthoughI should boastsomewhatmoreofourauthority, whichtheLordhath givenusforedification, andnotforyourdestruction, I should notbe ashamed: ThatI may notseemasif I would terrifyyoubyletters. For his letters, saythey, are weightyandpowerful; but his bodilypresence is weak, and his speechcontemptible. Let such a onethinkthis, that, suchas we arein wordbyletterswhen we are absent, such will we be alsoin deedwhen we are present. Forwe darenotmake ourselves of the number, orcompareourselveswith somethat commendthemselves: buttheymeasuringthemselvesbythemseves, andcomparingthemselvesamong themselves, are not wise. Butwewill notboastofthings without our measure, butaccordingto themeasureof therulewhichGodhath distributedto us, a measureto reachevenuntoyou. Forwe stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as thoughwe reachednotuntoyou: forwe are comeas far asto youalsoin preaching thegospelof Christ: Notboastingofthings without our measure, that is, ofother men's labors; buthavinghope, when yourfaithis increased, that we shall be enlargedbyyouaccordingto ourruleabundantly, To preach the gospelinthe regions beyondyou, and notto boastinanother man's line of thingsmade ready to our hand. Buthe that glorieth, let him gloryinthe Lord. Fornothethat commendethhimselfisapproved, butwhomtheLordcommendeth.
