ForJohntrulybaptized with water; butye shall be baptizedwith the HolyGhostnotmanydayshence. When theythereforewere come together, they askedof him, saying, Lord, wilt thouatthistimerestore againthekingdomto Israel? Andhe saiduntothem, It isnot for you to know the timesor the seasons, whichtheFather hath putin his ownpower. But ye shall receivepower, after that theHolyGhost is comeuponyou: and ye shall bewitnesses unto mebothinJerusalem, andinallJudea, and in Samaria, andunto the uttermost part of theearth. Andwhen he had spokenthese things, while theybeheld, he was taken up; anda cloudreceivedhimout oftheirsight. Andwhilethey looked steadfastlytowardheavenas hewent up, behold, twomenstood bytheminwhiteapparel; Whichalsosaid, Ye menof Galilee, whystandye gazing upintoheaven? this sameJesus, which is taken upfromyouintoheaven, shall socomein like manneras ye have seenhimgointoheaven. Thenreturnedthey untoJerusalemfromthe mountcalledOlivet, which isfromJerusalemasabbath day's journey. Andwhenthey were come in, they went upintoan upper room, whereabodebothPeter, andJames, andJohn, andAndrew, Philip, andThomas, Bartholomew, andMatthew, James the son of Alphaeus, andSimonZelotes, andJudas the brother of James. Theseallcontinuedwith one accordin prayerandsupplication, withthe women, andMarythemotherof Jesus, andwithhisbrethren. AndinthosedaysPeterstood upinthe midstof thedisciples, and said, ( thenumberof namestogetherwereabouta hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, thisScripturemust needshave been fulfilled, whichtheHolyGhostbythe mouthof Davidspake beforeconcerningJudas, which wasguideto them that tookJesus. Forhe wasnumberedwithus, andhad obtainedpartof thisministry. Nowthis manpurchaseda fieldwiththerewardof iniquity; andfallingheadlong, he burst asunderin the midst, andallhisbowelsgushed out. Andit wasknownunto allthedwellersat Jerusalem; insomuch asthatfieldis calledin theirpropertongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The fieldof blood. Forit is writteninthe bookof Psalms, Let hishabitationbedesolate, andlet nomandwelltherein: andhisbishopriclet anothertake. Whereforeofthese menwhich have companiedwith usallthe timethattheLordJesuswent inandoutamongus, Beginningfromthebaptismof John, untothat same daythathe was taken upfromus, must onebeordainedto be a witnesswithusof hisresurrection. Andthey appointedtwo, JosephcalledBarsabas, whowas surnamedJustus, andMatthias. Andthey prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the heartsof all men, showwhetherofthesetwothou hast chosen, That he may takepartof thisministryandapostleship, fromwhichJudasby transgression fell, that he might gotohis ownplace. Andthey gave forththeirlots; andthelotfelluponMatthias; andhe was numberedwiththeelevenapostles.
