And Jesus enteredand passed throughJericho. And, behold, there was a mannamedZacchaeus, whichwasthe chief among the publicans, andhewasrich. Andhe soughtto seeJesuswhohe was; andcouldnotforthepress, becausehe waslittleof stature. Andhe ranbefore, and climbed upintoa sycamore treetoseehim: forhe wasto passthat way. AndwhenJesuscametotheplace, he looked up, and sawhim, andsaiduntohim, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; fortodayImustabideatthyhouse. Andhe made haste, and came down, andreceivedhimjoyfully. Andwhen they saw it, they allmurmured, saying, Thathe was goneto be guestwitha manthat is a sinner. AndZacchaeusstood, and saiduntotheLord; Behold, Lord, thehalfof mygoodsI giveto thepoor; andifI have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. AndJesussaiduntohim, This day is salvationcome to thishouse forsomuch ashealsois a son of Abraham. FortheSon of man is come to seekand to save that which was lost. Andas theyheardthese things, he addedand spakea parable, because hewasnigh toJerusalem, andbecause theythoughtthatthekingdomof Godshouldimmediatelyappear. He saidtherefore, A certainnoblemanwentinto a farcountry to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he calledhistenservants, and deliveredthemtenpounds, andsaiduntothem, Occupytill I come. Buthiscitizenshatedhim, andsent a messageafterhim, saying, We will nothavethis man to reignoverus. And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having receivedthekingdom, then he commandedtheseservants to be called unto him, to whom he had giventhemoney, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Thencamethefirst, saying, Lord, thypound hath gainedtenpounds. And he said unto him, Well, thou goodservant: because thou hast beenfaithfulin a very little, have thou authorityovertencities. Andthesecondcame, saying, Lord, thypound hath gainedfivepounds. And he saidlikewise to him, Bethoualsooverfivecities. Andanothercame, saying, Lord, behold, here is thypound, which I have kept laid upin a napkin: For I fearedthee, because thou art an austereman: thou takest upthat thou laidst not down, andreapestthat thou didst notsow. And he saith unto him, Out of thine ownmouth will I judgethee, thou wickedservant. Thou knewestthatIwas an austereman, taking upthat I laid not down, andreapingthat I did notsow: Whereforethengavestnot thou mymoneyintothebank, that at mycoming I might have required mine ownwithusury? And he said unto them that stood by, Takefromhimthepound, andgive it to him that hathtenpounds. ( And they said unto him, Lord, he hathtenpounds.) For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; andfrom him that hathnot, eventhat he hath shall be taken awayfromhim. Butthosemineenemies, which wouldnot that I should reignoverthem, bringhither, andslay them beforeme. Andwhen he had thusspoken, he wentbefore, ascending uptoJerusalem. Andit came to pass, whenhe was come nightoBethphageandBethany, atthemountcalled the mount of Olives, he senttwoof hisdisciples, Saying, Go ye intothevillage over against you ; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colttied, whereon yet nevermansat: loosehim, and bring him hither. Andif any manaskyou, Why do ye loose him ? thus shall ye say unto him, BecausetheLordhathneed of him. Andthey that were sentwent their way, and foundeven ashe had saidunto them. Andas theywere loosingthecolt, theownersthereofsaiduntothem, Whylooseye thecolt? Andtheysaid, TheLordhathneedof him. Andthey broughthimtoJesus: andthey casttheirgarmentsuponthecolt, and they set Jesus thereon. Andas hewent, they spreadtheirclothesintheway. Andwhen hewas come nigh, even nowatthedescentof themountof Olives, thewholemultitudeof thedisciplesbeganto rejoiceand praiseGodwith a loudvoiceforallthe mighty worksthatthey had seen; Saying, Blessed be theKingthat comethinthe nameof the Lord: peaceinheaven, andgloryinthe highest. Andsomeof thePhariseesfromamong themultitudesaiduntohim, Master, rebukethydisciples. Andhe answeredand saidunto them, I tellyouthat, ifthese should hold their peace, thestones would immediately cry out. Andwhenhe was come near, he beheldthecity, and weptoverit, Saying, If thou hadst known, eventhou, at leastinthisthyday, the things which belong untothypeace! butnow they are hidfromthineeyes. For the days shall comeuponthee, thatthineenemies shall cast a trench aboutthee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, andthychildrenwithinthee; and they shall notleaveinthee one stone upon another; because thou knewestnotthetime of thyvisitation. Andhe wentintothetemple, and beganto cast outthem that soldtherein, andthem that bought; Sayingunto them, It is written, Myhouseis the house of prayer: butye have madeit a den of thieves. Andhe taughtdailyinthetemple. Butthechief priestsandthescribesandthechiefof thepeoplesoughtto destroyhim, Andcould notfindwhatthey might do: forallthepeoplewere very attentiveto hearhim.
