Andit came to pass, as hewentintothe houseof oneof thechiefPhariseesto eatbreadon the sabbath day, thattheywatchedhim. And, behold, there wasa certainmanbeforehimwhich had the dropsy. AndJesusansweringspakeuntothelawyersandPharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? Andtheyheld their peace. Andhe took him, and healedhim, andlet him go; Andansweredthem, saying, Which of you shall have an assor an oxfalleninto a pit, and will notstraightway pull him outonthesabbathday? Andthey couldnotanswer him againtothese things. Andhe put fortha parabletothose which were bidden, when he markedhowthey chose outthechief rooms; sayinguntothem, When thou art biddenofany man to a wedding, sit not downinthe highest room; lest a more honorable man than thoubebiddenofhim; And he that badetheeandhimcome and say to thee, Give this manplace; andthoubeginwithshame to takethelowestroom. Butwhen thou art bidden, go and sit downinthelowestroom; thatwhen he badetheecometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go uphigher: then shalt thouhaveworship in the presence of them that sit at meat withthee. Forwhosoeverexaltethhimself shall be abased; and he that humblethhimself shall be exalted. Thensaidhe alsoto him that badehim, When thou makest a dinneror a supper, callnotthyfriends, northybrethren, neitherthykinsmen, nor thy richneighbors; lesttheyalso bid thee again, and a recompense be madethee. Butwhen thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt beblessed; for they cannotrecompensethee: forthou shalt be recompensedattheresurrection of thejust. Andwhen oneof them that sat at meat withhim heardthese things, he saidunto him, Blessed is hethat shall eatbreadinthekingdomof God. Thensaidheunto him, A certainmanmade a greatsupper, andbademany: Andsenthisservant at suppertime to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all thingsarenowready. And they allwithone consent began to make excuse. Thefirstsaid unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I mustneedsgoandseeit: I praytheehavemeexcused. Andanothersaid, I have boughtfiveyoke of oxen, and I go to provethem: I praytheehavemeexcused. Andanothersaid, I have married a wife, andtherefore I cannotcome. Sothatservantcame, and showedhislord these things. Thenthe master of the house being angrysaid to hisservant, Go outquicklyintothestreetsandlanes of thecity, and bring inhitherthepoor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. Andtheservantsaid, Lord, it is doneas thou hast commanded, andyet there isroom. Andthelordsaiduntotheservant, Go outintothehighwaysandhedges, andcompel them to come in, thatmyhouse may be filled. For I say unto you, Thatnone of thosemen which were bidden shall taste of mysupper. Andthere went great multitudes withhim: andhe turned, and saiduntothem, If any man cometome, andhatenothisfather, andmother, andwife, andchildren, andbrethren, andsisters, yea, and his ownlifealso, he cannotbemydisciple. Andwhosoever doth notbearhiscross, andcomeafterme, cannotbemydisciple. Forwhichofyou, intending to build a tower, sitteth not downfirst, and counteththecost, whether he have sufficient to finish it ? Lest haply, afterhe hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mockhim, Saying, Thismanbegan to build, and was not able to finish. Orwhatking, going to make war against anotherking, sitteth not downfirst, andconsultethwhether he beablewithtenthousand to meet him that comethagainsthimwithtwentythousand? Or else, while the otherisyet a great way off, he sendethambassadors, and desirethconditionsofpeace. Solikewise, whosoever he be ofyouthatforsakethnotall that he hath, he cannotbemydisciple. Salt is good: butifthesalt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It isneitherfitfor the land, nor yetfor the dunghill; but men castitout. He that hathears to hear, let him hear.
