A certain manplanted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, anddigged a place for the wine vat, andbuilt a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country. And at theseason he senttothehusbandmen a servant, that he might receivefromthehusbandmenofthefruit of thevineyard. Andtheycaught him, and beathim, and sent him awayempty. Andagain he sentuntothemanotherservant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. Andagain he sentanother; and him they killed, andmanyothers; beatingsome, andkillingsome. Havingyetthereforeoneson, hiswell-beloved, he senthimalsolastuntothem, saying, They will reverencemyson. Butthosehusbandmensaidamongthemselves, Thisistheheir; come, let us killhim, andtheinheritance shall beours. And they tookhim, and killed him, andcast him out of thevineyard. What shall thereforethelord of thevineyarddo? he will comeanddestroythehusbandmen, and will givethevineyard unto others. And have ye notreadthisScripture; The stonewhichthebuildersrejectedisbecomethehead of the corner: Thiswas the Lord's doing, and it ismarvelousinoureyes? Andthey soughtto lay hold onhim, butfearedthepeople: forthey knewthathe had spokentheparableagainstthem: andthey lefthim, and went their way. Andthey senduntohimcertainof thePhariseesandof theHerodians, tocatchhimin his words. Andwhen theywere come, they sayunto him, Master, we knowthatthou arttrue, andcarestforno man: forthou regardestnotthepersonof men, butteachestthewayof Godintruth: Is it lawfulto givetributeto Caesar, ornot? Shall we give, orshall we notgive? Buthe, knowingtheirhypocrisy, saidunto them, Whytempt ye me? bringme a penny, that I may see it. Andtheybrought it. Andhe saithunto them, Whose is thisimageandsuperscription? Andtheysaidunto him, Caesar's. AndJesusansweringsaidunto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. Andthey marveledathim. Thencomeuntohimthe Sadducees, whichsaythere isnoresurrection; andthey askedhim, saying, Master, Moseswroteunto us, Ifa man's brotherdie, andleave his wife behind him, andleavenochildren, thathisbrothershould takehiswife, andraise upseedunto hisbrother. Now there weresevenbrethren: andthefirsttooka wife, anddyingleftnoseed. Andthesecondtookher, anddied, neitherleftheany seed: andthethirdlikewise. Andthesevenhadher, andleftnoseed: lastof allthewomandiedalso. Intheresurrectiontherefore, whenthey shall rise, whosewifeshall she beof them? forthesevenhadherto wife. AndJesusansweringsaidunto them, Do ye notthereforeerr, because ye knownottheScriptures, neitherthepower of God? Forwhen they shall risefrom the dead, they neithermarry, nor are given in marriage; butareas the angelswhich are inheaven. And as touchingthedead, that they rise: have ye notreadinthebook of Moses, howinthebushGodspake unto him, saying, I am theGod of Abraham, andtheGod of Isaac, andtheGod of Jacob? He isnottheGod of the dead, but the God of the living: yetherefore do greatlyerr. Andoneof thescribescame, and having heardthemreasoning together, and perceivingthathe had answeredthemwell, askedhim, Whichisthe firstcommandmentof all? AndJesusansweredhim, The first of allthecommandments is, Hear, O Israel; The LordourGodisoneLord: And thou shalt love the LordthyGodwithallthyheart, andwithallthysoul, andwithallthymind, andwithallthystrength: this is the firstcommandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt lovethyneighborasthyself. There isnoneothercommandmentgreater than these. Andthescribesaidunto him, Well, Master, thou hast saidthetruth: forthere isoneGod; andthere isnoneotherbuthe: Andto lovehimwithalltheheartandwithalltheunderstanding, andwithallthesoul, andwithallthestrength, andto love his neighborashimself, ismorethan allwhole burnt offeringsandsacrifices. Andwhen Jesussawthathe answereddiscreetlyhe saidunto him, Thou artnotfarfromthekingdom of God. Andno manafter thatdurstaskhim any question. AndJesusansweredand said, while he taughtinthetemple, HowsaythescribesthatChristis the son of David? ForDavidhimselfsaidbytheHolyGhost, theLORDsaid to myLORD, Sit thou onmy right hand, till I makethineenemies thy footstool. DavidthereforehimselfcallethhimLord; andwhenceis he then hisson? Andthecommonpeopleheardhimgladly. Andhe saidunto theminhisdoctrine, Bewareofthescribes, which love to goin long clothing, and love salutationsinthemarketplaces, And the chief seatsinthesynagogues, and the uppermost roomsatfeasts: Which devourwidows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receivegreaterdamnation. AndJesussatover againstthetreasury, and beheldhowthepeoplecastmoneyintothetreasury: andmanythat were richcast inmuch. Andthere camea certainpoorwidow, and she threw intwomites, which makea farthing. Andhe called unto him hisdisciples, and saithunto them, Verily I say unto you, Thatthispoorwidow hath cast more in, than all they which have castintothetreasury: Forall they did cast inoftheirabundance; butsheofherwant did cast inallthat she had, even allherliving.
