Then camethe childrenof Israel, even the wholecongregation, into the desertof Zinin the firstmonth: and the peopleabodein Kadesh; and Miriamdiedthere, and was buriedthere. And there wasnowaterfor the congregation: and they gathered themselves togetheragainstMosesand againstAaron. And the peoplechidedwithMoses, and spoke, saying, Would Godthat we had diedwhen our brethrendiedbeforethe LORD! And whyhave ye brought upthe congregationof the Lordintothiswilderness, that weand our cattleshould diethere? And whereforehave ye made us to come upout of Egypt, to bring us inuntothisevilplace? it is noplaceof seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any waterto drink. And Mosesand Aaronwentfrom the presenceof the assemblyuntothe doorof the tabernacleof the congregation, and they fellupontheir faces: and the gloryof the LORDappeareduntothem. And the LORDspokeuntoMoses, saying, Takethe rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaronthy brother, and speakye untothe rockbefore their eyes; and it shall give forthhis water, and thou shalt bring forthto them waterout ofthe rock: so thou shalt give the congregationand their beastsdrink. And Mosestookthe rodfrom beforethe LORD, ashe commandedhim. And Mosesand Aarongathered the congregation togetherbeforethe rock, and he saidunto them, Hearnow, ye rebels; must we fetchyou waterout ofthisrock? And Moseslifted uphis hand, and with his rodhe smotethe rocktwice: and the watercame outabundantly, and the congregationdrank, and their beasts also . And the LORDspokeuntoMosesand Aaron, Becauseye believedme not, to sanctifyme in the eyesof the childrenof Israel, thereforeye shall notbringthiscongregationintothe landwhichI have giventhem. This is the waterof Meribah; becausethe childrenof Israelstrovewiththe LORD, and he was sanctifiedin them. And Mosessentmessengersfrom Kadeshuntothe kingof Edom, Thussaiththy brotherIsrael, Thouknowestallthe travailthathath befallenus: How our fatherswent downinto Egypt, and we have dweltin Egypta longtime; and the Egyptiansvexedus, and our fathers: And when we crieduntothe LORD, he heardour voice, and sentan angel, and hath brought us forthout of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a cityin the uttermostof thy border: Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will notpass throughthe fields, or through the vineyards, neitherwill we drink of the waterof the wells: we will goby the king's high way, we will notturnto the right handnor to the left, untilwe have passedthy borders. And Edomsaiduntohim, Thou shalt notpassby me, lestI come outagainstthee with the sword. And the childrenof Israelsaiduntohim, We will goby the high way: and ifIand my cattledrinkof thy water, then I will payfor it: I will only, without doing any thing else , go throughon my feet. And he said, Thou shalt notgo through. And Edomcame outagainsthim with muchpeople, and with a stronghand. Thus Edomrefusedto giveIsraelpassagethrough his border: wherefore Israelturned awayfromhim. And the childrenof Israel, even the wholecongregation, journeyedfrom Kadesh, and cameunto mountHor. And the LORDspokeuntoMosesand Aaronin mountHor, bythe coastof the landof Edom, saying, Aaronshall be gathereduntohis people: forhe shall notenterintothe landwhichI have givenunto the childrenof Israel, becauseye rebelled againstmy wordat the waterof Meribah. TakeAaronand Eleazarhis son, and bring them upunto mountHor: And stripAaronof his garments, and put them uponEleazarhis son: and Aaronshall be gathered unto his people , and shall diethere. And Mosesdidasthe LORDcommanded: and they went upintomountHorin the sightof allthe congregation. And MosesstrippedAaronof his garments, and put them uponEleazarhis son; and Aarondiedtherein the topof the mount: and Mosesand Eleazarcame downfromthe mount. And when allthe congregationsawthatAaronwas dead, they mournedfor Aaronthirtydays, even allthe houseof Israel.
