The burdenof Nineveh. The bookof the visionof Nahumthe Elkoshite. God is jealous, and the LORDrevengeth; the LORDrevengeth, and is furious; the LORDwill take vengeanceon his adversaries, and hereserveth wrath for his enemies. The LORD is slowto anger, and greatin power, and will not at all acquit the wicked : the LORDhath his wayin the whirlwindand in the storm, and the clouds are the dustof his feet. He rebukeththe sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth upallthe rivers: Bashanlanguisheth, and Carmel, and the flowerof Lebanonlanguisheth. The mountainsquakeathim, and the hillsmelt, and the earthis burnedat his presence, yea, the world, and allthat dwelltherein. Whocan standbeforehis indignation? and whocan abidein the fiercenessof his anger? his furyis poured outlike fire, and the rocksare thrown downbyhim. The LORD is good, a strongholdin the dayof trouble; and he knoweththem that trustin him. But with an overrunningfloodhe will makean utter endof the placethereof, and darknessshall pursuehis enemies. Whatdo ye imagineagainstthe LORD? hewill makean utter end: afflictionshall notrise upthe second time. Forwhile they be folded together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devouredas stubblefullydry. There is one come outofthee, that imaginethevilagainstthe LORD, a wickedcounselor. Thussaiththe LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewisemany, yet thusshall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflictedthee, I will afflictthee nomore. For nowwill I breakhis yokefrom offthee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder. And the LORDhath given a commandmentconcerningthee, that nomoreof thy namebe sown: out of the houseof thy godswill I cut offthe graven imageand the molten image: I will makethy grave; forthou art vile. Beholduponthe mountainsthe feetof him that bringeth good tidings, that publishethpeace! O Judah, keepthy solemn feasts, performthy vows: forthe wickedshall nomorepass throughthee; he is utterlycut off.
