Nebuchadnezzarthe kingmadean imageofgold, whose height was threescorecubits, and the breadththereof sixcubits: he set it upin the plainof Dura, in the provinceof Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzarthe kingsentto gather togetherthe princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and allthe rulersof the provinces, to cometo the dedicationof the imagewhichNebuchadnezzarthe kinghad set up. Thenthe princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and allthe rulersof the provinces, were gathered togetherunto the dedicationof the imagethatNebuchadnezzarthe kinghad set up; and they stoodbeforethe imagethatNebuchadnezzarhad set up. Then a heraldcriedaloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at whattimeye hearthe soundof the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and allkindsof music, ye fall downand worshipthe goldenimagethatNebuchadnezzarthe kinghath set up: And whosofalleth not downand worshipethshall the same hourbe castinto the midstof a burningfieryfurnace. Thereforeat that time, whenallthe peopleheardthe soundof the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and allkindsof music, allthe people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipedthe goldenimagethatNebuchadnezzarthe kinghad set up. Whereforeat that timecertainChaldeanscame near, and accusedthe Jews. They spokeand saidto the kingNebuchadnezzar, O king, liveforever. Thou, O king, hast madea decree, thateverymanthatshall hearthe soundof the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and allkindsof music, shall fall downand worshipthe goldenimage: And whosofalleth not downand worshipeth, that he should be castinto the midstof a burningfieryfurnace. There arecertainJewswhomthou hast setoverthe affairsof the provinceof Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; thesemen, O king, have notregardedthee: they servenotthy gods, norworshipthe goldenimagewhichthou hast set up. ThenNebuchadnezzarin his rageand furycommandedto bringShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Thenthey broughtthesemenbeforethe king. Nebuchadnezzarspokeand saidunto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, donotye servemy gods, norworshipthe goldenimagewhichI have set up? Nowifye bereadythatat whattimeye hearthe soundof the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and allkindsof music, ye fall downand worshipthe imagewhichI have made; well : but ifye worshipnot, ye shall be castthe same hourinto the midstof a burningfieryfurnace; and who is thatGodthatshall deliveryou out ofmy hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answeredand saidto the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are notcarefulto answerthee inthismatter. Ifit be so , our Godwhomweserveis ableto deliverus fromthe burningfieryfurnace, and he will deliver us out ofthine hand, O king. But ifnot, beit knownunto thee, O king, thatwe willnotservethy gods, norworshipthe goldenimagewhichthou hast set up. Thenwas Nebuchadnezzarfullof fury, and the formof his visagewas changedagainstShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spoke, and commandedthat they should heatthe furnaceoneseven timesmorethanit was wontto be heated. And he commandedthe most mightymenthat were in his armyto bindShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burningfieryfurnace. Thenthesemenwere boundin their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were castinto the midstof the burningfieryfurnace. Thereforebecausethe king's commandmentwas urgent, and the furnaceexceedinghot, the flameofthe fireslewthosementhattook upShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. And thesethreemen, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell downboundinto the midstof the burningfieryfurnace. ThenNebuchadnezzarthe kingwas astonished, and rose upin haste, and spoke, and saidunto his counselors, Did notwe castthreemenboundinto the midstof the fire? They answeredand saidunto the king, True, O king. He answeredand said, Lo, Iseefourmenloose, walkingin the midstof the fire, and they havenohurt; and the formofthe fourthis likethe Sonof God. ThenNebuchadnezzarcame nearto the mouthof the burningfieryfurnace, and spoke, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servantsofthe most highGod, come forth, and come hither . ThenShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, came forthofthe midstof the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, sawthesemen, upon whosebodiesthe firehad no power, norwas a hairof their headsinged, neitherwere their coatschanged, northe smellof firehad passedon them. Then Nebuchadnezzarspoke, and said, Blessed be the GodofShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, whohath senthis angel, and deliveredhis servantsthattrustedinhim, and have changedthe king's word, and yieldedtheir bodies, thatthey might notservenorworshipanygod, excepttheir own God. Therefore I makea decree, Thateverypeople, nation, and language, whichspeakany thing amissagainstthe GodofShadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cutin pieces, and their housesshall be madea dunghill: becausethere isnootherGodthatcandeliverafter this sort.
