In the thirdyearof Cyruskingof Persiaa thingwas revealedunto Daniel, whosenamewas calledBelteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understoodthe thing, and had understandingof the vision. In thosedaysIDanielwasmourningthreefullweeks. I atenopleasantbread, neithercamefleshnor wineinmy mouth, neitherdid I anoint myself at all, tillthreewholeweekswere fulfilled. And in the fourand twentiethdayof the firstmonth, as Iwasbythe sideof the greatriver, which is Hiddekel; Then I lifted upmine eyes, and looked, and beholda certainmanclothedin linen, whose loins were girdedwith fine goldof Uphaz: His bodyalso was like the beryl, and his faceas the appearanceof lightning, and his eyesas lampsof fire, and his armsand his feetlike in colorto polishedbrass, and the voiceof his wordslike the voiceof a multitude. And IDanielalonesawthe vision: for the menthatwerewithme sawnotthe vision; buta greatquakingfelluponthem, so that they fledto hide themselves. Therefore Iwas leftalone, and sawthisgreatvision, and there remainednostrengthin me: for my comelinesswas turnedinme into corruption, and I retainednostrength. Yet heardI the voiceof his words: and when I heardthe voiceof his words, then wasIin a deep sleeponmy face, and my facetoward the ground. And, behold, a handtouchedme, which setme uponmy kneesand upon the palmsof my hands. And he saiduntome, O Daniel, a mangreatly beloved, understandthe wordsthatIspeakuntothee, and standupright: foruntothee am I nowsent. And when he had spokenthisworduntome, I stoodtrembling. Then saidhe untome, Fearnot, Daniel: forfromthe firstdaythatthou didst setthine heartto understand, and to chasten thyselfbeforethy God, thy wordswere heard, and Iam comefor thy words. But the princeof the kingdomof Persiawithstoodme oneand twentydays: but, lo, Michael, oneof the chiefprinces, cameto helpme; and Iremainedtherewiththe kingsof Persia. Now I am cometo make thee understandwhatshall befallthy peoplein the latterdays: foryetthe vision is for many days. And when he had spokensuchwordsuntome, I setmy facetoward the ground, and I became dumb. And, behold, one like the similitudeof the sonsof mentouchedmy lips: then I openedmy mouth, and spoke, and saiduntohim that stoodbeforeme, O my lord, by the visionmy sorrowsare turneduponme, and I have retainednostrength. For howcanthe servantof thismy lordtalkwiththismy lord? for as for me, straightwaythere remainednostrengthin me, neitheris there breathleftin me. Then there came againand touchedme one like the appearanceof a man, and he strengthenedme, And said, O mangreatly beloved, fearnot: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spokenuntome, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lordspeak; forthou hast strengthenedme. Then saidhe, Knowestthou whereforeI comeuntothee? and nowwill I returnto fightwiththe princeof Persia: and when Iam gone forth, lo, the princeof Greeceshall come. ButI will showthee that which is notedin the Scriptureof truth: and there is nonethat holdethwithme inthese things, butMichaelyour prince.
