Again the wordof the LORDcameuntome, saying, Sonof man, cause Jerusalemto knowher abominations, And say, Thussaiththe LordGODunto Jerusalem; Thy birthand thy nativity is of the landof Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mothera Hittite. And as for thy nativity, in the daythou wast bornthy navelwas notcut, neitherwast thou washedin waterto supple thee ; thou wast notsalted at all, norswaddled at all. Noneeyepitiedthee, to doanyof theseunto thee, to have compassionuponthee; but thou wast cast outinthe openfield, to the loathingof thy person, in the daythat thou wast born. And when I passedbythee, and sawthee pollutedin thine own blood, I saidunto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I saidunto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live. I have causedthee to multiplyas the budof the field, and thou hast increasedand waxen great, and thou art cometo excellentornaments: thy breastsare fashioned, and thine hairis grown, whereas thou wast nakedand bare. Now when I passedbythee, and looked uponthee, behold, thy time was the timeof love; and I spreadmy skirtoverthee, and coveredthy nakedness: yea, I sworeunto thee, and enteredinto a covenantwiththee, saiththe LordGOD, and thou becamestmine. Then washedI thee with water; yea, I throughly washed awaythy bloodfromthee, and I anointedthee with oil. I clothedthee also with embroidered work, and shodthee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee aboutwith fine linen, and I coveredthee with silk. I deckedthee also with ornaments, and I putbraceletsuponthy hands, and a chainonthy neck. And I puta jewelonthy forehead, and earringsinthine ears, and a beautifulcrownupon thine head. Thus wast thou deckedwith goldand silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work; thou didst eatfine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosperinto a kingdom. And thy renownwent forthamong the heathenfor thy beauty: forit was perfectthrough my comeliness, whichI had putuponthee, saiththe LordGOD. But thou didst trustin thine own beauty, and playedst the harlotbecauseof thy renown, and pouredst outthy fornicationsonevery onethat passed by; his it was. And of thy garmentsthou didst take, and deckedstthy high placeswith divers colors, and playedst the harlotthereupon: the like things shall notcome, neithershall it be so . Thou hast also takenthy fairjewelsof my goldand of my silver, whichI had giventhee, and madestto thyself imagesof men, and didst commit whoredomwith them, And tookestthine embroideredgarments, and coveredstthem: and thou hast setmine oiland mine incensebeforethem. My meatalso whichI gavethee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fedthee, thou hast even setit beforethem for a sweetsavor: and thus it was, saiththe LordGOD. Moreover thou hast takenthy sonsand thy daughters, whomthou hast borneunto me, and these hast thou sacrificedunto them to be devoured. Is this ofthy whoredomsa small matter, That thou hast slainmy children, and deliveredthem to cause them to pass through the fire for them? And in allthine abominationsand thy whoredomsthou hast notrememberedthe daysof thy youth, when thou wastnakedand bare, and wastpollutedin thy blood. And it came to passafterallthy wickedness, ( woe, woeunto thee! saiththe LordGOD;) That thou hast also builtunto thee an eminent place, and hast madethee a high placein everystreet. Thou hast builtthy high placeateveryheadof the way, and hast made thy beautyto be abhorred, and hast openedthy feetto every onethat passed by, and multipliedthy whoredoms. Thou hast also committed fornicationwiththe Egyptiansthy neighbors, greatof flesh; and hast increasedthy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger. Behold, therefore I have stretched outmy handoverthee, and have diminishedthine ordinary food , and deliveredthee unto the willof them that hatethee, the daughtersof the Philistines, which are ashamedof thy lewdway. Thou hast played the whorealso withthe Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlotwith them, and yetcouldest notbe satisfied. Thou hast moreover multipliedthy fornicationinthe landof Canaanunto Chaldea; and yetthou wast notsatisfiedherewith. Howweakis thine heart, saiththe LordGOD, seeing thou doestallthese things , the workof an imperiouswhorishwoman; In that thou buildestthine eminent placein the headof everyway, and makestthine high placein everystreet; and hast notbeenas a harlot, in that thou scornesthire; But as a wifethat committeth adultery, which takethstrangersinsteadof her husband! They givegiftsto allwhores: but thougivestthy giftsto allthy lovers, and hirestthem, that they may comeuntothee on every sidefor thy whoredom. And the contraryisin thee from other womenin thy whoredoms, whereas nonefolloweththee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givesta reward, and norewardis givenunto thee, therefore thou artcontrary. Wherefore, O harlot, hearthe wordof the LORD: Thussaiththe LordGOD; Becausethy filthinesswas poured out, and thy nakednessdiscoveredthrough thy whoredomswiththy lovers, and withallthe idolsof thy abominations, and by the bloodof thy children, whichthou didst giveunto them; Behold, thereforeI will gatherallthy lovers, withwhomthou hast taken pleasure, and all them thatthou hast loved, withall them thatthou hast hated; I will even gatherthem round aboutagainstthee, and will discoverthy nakednessuntothem, that they may seeallthy nakedness. And I will judgethee, as women that break wedlockand shedbloodare judged; and I will givethee bloodin furyand jealousy. And I will also givethee into their hand, and they shall throw downthine eminent place, and shall break downthy high places: they shall stripthee also of thy clothes, and shall takethy fairjewels, and leavethee nakedand bare. They shall also bring upa companyagainstthee, and they shall stonethee with stones, and thrust thee throughwith their swords. And they shall burnthine houseswith fire, and executejudgmentsupon thee in the sightof manywomen: and I will cause thee to ceasefrom playing the harlot, and thou alsoshalt givenohireany more. So will I make my furytoward thee to rest, and my jealousyshall departfromthee, and I will be quiet, and will be nomoreangry. Becausethou hast notrememberedthe daysof thy youth, but hast frettedme in allthese things ; behold, therefore Ialsowill recompensethy wayupon thine head, saiththe LordGOD: and thou shalt notcommitthis lewdnessaboveallthine abominations. Behold, every onethat useth proverbsshall use this proverbagainstthee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. Thou art thy mother's daughter, that loathethher husbandand her children; and thou art the sisterof thy sisters, whichloathedtheir husbandsand their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your fatheran Amorite. And thine eldersister is Samaria, sheand her daughtersthat dwellatthy left hand: and thy youngersister, that dwellethat thy right hand, is Sodomand her daughters. Yet hast thou notwalkedafter their ways, nor doneafter their abominations: but, as if that were a verylittle thing , thou wast corruptedmore thanthey in allthy ways. As Ilive, saiththe LordGOD, Sodomthy sisterhath notdone, shenor her daughters, asthou hast done, thouand thy daughters. Behold, thiswasthe iniquityof thy sisterSodom, pride, fullnessof bread, and abundanceof idlenesswasin her and in her daughters, neitherdid she strengthenthe handof the poorand needy. And they were haughty, and committedabominationbeforeme: therefore I took them awayasI saw good . Neitherhath Samariacommittedhalfof thy sins; but thou hast multipliedthine abominationsmore thanthey, and hast justifiedthy sistersin allthine abominationswhichthou hast done. Thoualso, whichhast judgedthy sisters, bearthine own shamefor thy sinsthatthou hast committed more abominablethanthey: they are more righteousthanthou: yea, be thou confoundedalso, and bearthy shame, in that thou hast justifiedthy sisters. When I shall bring againtheir captivity, the captivityof Sodomand her daughters, and the captivityof Samariaand her daughters, then will I bring again the captivityof thy captivesin the midstof them: Thatthou mayest bearthine own shame, and mayest be confoundedin allthatthou hast done, in that thou art a comfortunto them. When thy sisters, Sodomand her daughters, shall returnto their former estate, and Samariaand her daughtersshall returnto their former estate, then thouand thy daughtersshall returnto your former estate. For thy sisterSodomwasnotmentionedby thy mouthin the dayof thy pride, Beforethy wickednesswas discovered, as atthe timeof thy reproachof the daughtersof Syria, and all that are round abouther, the daughtersof the Philistines, which despisethee round about. Thouhast bornethy lewdnessand thine abominations, saiththe LORD. Forthussaiththe LordGOD; I will even dealwiththee asthou hast done, whichhast despisedthe oathin breakingthe covenant. Nevertheless Iwill remembermy covenantwiththee with thee in the daysof thy youth, and I will establishunto thee an everlastingcovenant. Then thou shalt rememberthy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receivethy sisters, thine elderand thy younger: and I will givethem unto thee for daughters, but notby thy covenant. And Iwill establishmy covenantwiththee; and thou shalt knowthatI am the LORD: Thatthou mayest remember, and be confounded, and neveropenthy mouthany morebecauseof thy shame, when I am pacifiedtoward thee for allthatthou hast done, saiththe LordGOD.
