Then allthe captainsof the forces, and Johananthe sonof Kareah, and Jezaniahthe sonof Hoshaiah, and allthe peoplefrom the leasteven untothe greatest, came near, And saiduntoJeremiahthe prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplicationbe acceptedbeforethee, and prayforus untothe LORDthy God, even forallthisremnant; ( forwe are left but a fewof many, asthine eyesdo beholdus:) That the LORDthy Godmay showus the waywhereinwe may walk, and the thingthatwe may do. Then Jeremiahthe prophetsaiduntothem, I have heard you ; behold, I will prayuntothe LORDyour Godaccording to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoeverthingthe LORDshall answeryou, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing backfromyou. Then theysaidtoJeremiah, The LORDbea trueand faithfulwitnessbetween us, ifwe donotevenaccording to allthingsfor the whichthe LORDthy Godshall sendthee tous. Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obeythe voiceof the LORDour God, to whomwesendthee; thatit may be wellwith us, whenwe obeythe voiceof the LORDour God. And it came to passaftertendays, that the wordof the LORDcameuntoJeremiah. Then calledhe Johananthe sonof Kareah, and allthe captainsof the forceswhich were withhim, and allthe peoplefrom the leasteven tothe greatest, And saiduntothem, Thussaiththe LORD, the Godof Israel, untowhomye sentme to presentyour supplicationbeforehim; Ifye will still abidein thisland, then will I buildyou, and notpull you down, and I will plantyou, and notpluck you up: forI repentme ofthe evilthatI have doneunto you. Be notafraidofthe kingof Babylon, of whomyeare afraid; be notafraidofhim, saiththe LORD: forI am withyou to saveyou, and to deliveryou from his hand. And I will showmerciesunto you, that he may have mercy uponyou, and cause you to returntoyour own land. But ifyesay, We will notdwellin thisland, neitherobeythe voiceof the LORDyour God, Saying, No; butwe will gointo the landof Egypt, wherewe shall seenowar, norhearthe soundof the trumpet, norhave hungerof bread; and therewill we dwell: And nowthereforehearthe wordof the LORD, ye remnantof Judah; Thussaiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel; Ifyewholly setyour facesto enter intoEgypt, and goto sojournthere; Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, whichyefeared, shall overtakeyou therein the landof Egypt, and the famine, whereofyewere afraid, shall follow closeafteryou therein Egypt; and thereye shall die. So shall it bewith allthe menthatsettheir facesto go intoEgyptto sojournthere; they shall dieby the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and noneof them shallremainor escapefromthe evilthatIwill bringuponthem. Forthussaiththe LORDof hosts, the Godof Israel; Asmine angerand my furyhath been poured forthuponthe inhabitantsof Jerusalem; soshall my furybe poured forthuponyou, when ye shallenter intoEgypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall seethisplacenomore. The LORDhath saidconcerningyou, O ye remnantof Judah; Goye notinto Egypt: know certainlythatI have admonishedyou this day. Forye dissembledin your hearts, whenyesentme untothe LORDyour God, saying, Prayforus untothe LORDour God; and according unto allthatthe LORDour Godshall say, sodeclareunto us, and we will do it . And now I have this daydeclared it to you; but ye have notobeyedthe voiceof the LORDyour God, nor any thing for the whichhe hath sentme untoyou. Nowtherefore know certainlythatye shall dieby the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the placewhitherye desireto go and to sojourn.
