Then PashursmoteJeremiahthe prophet, and puthim inthe stocksthat were in the highgateof Benjamin, which was by the houseof the LORD. And it came to passon the morrow, that Pashurbrought forthJeremiahout ofthe stocks. Then saidJeremiahuntohim, The LORDhath notcalledthy namePashur, butMagor-missabib. Forthussaiththe LORD, Behold, I will makethee a terrorto thyself, and to allthy friends: and they shall fallby the swordof their enemies, and thine eyesshall behold it : and I will giveallJudahinto the handof the kingof Babylon, and he shall carry them captiveinto Babylon, and shall slaythem with the sword. Moreover I will deliverallthe strengthof thiscity, and allthe laborsthereof, and allthe precious thingsthereof, and allthe treasuresof the kingsof Judahwill I giveinto the handof their enemies, which shall spoilthem, and takethem, and carrythem to Babylon. And thou, Pashur, and allthat dwellin thine houseshall gointo captivity: and thou shalt cometo Babylon, and therethou shalt die, and shalt be buriedthere, thou, and allthy friends, to whomthou hast prophesiedlies. O LORD, thou hast deceivedme, and I was deceived: thou art strongerthan I, and hast prevailed: I amin derisiondaily, every onemockethme. ForsinceI spoke, I cried out, I criedviolenceand spoil; becausethe wordof the LORDwas madea reproachunto me, and a derision, daily. Then I said, I will notmake mentionof him, norspeakany morein his name. But his word wasin mine heartas a burningfireshut upin my bones, and I was wearywith forbearing, and I couldnot stay . ForI heardthe defamingof many, fearon every side. Report, say they , and we will reportit. Allmy familiarswatchedfor my halting, saying , Peradventurehe will be enticed, and we shall prevailagainst him, and we shall takeour revengeonhim. But the LORD is withme as a mightyterrible one: thereforemy persecutorsshall stumble, and they shall notprevail: they shall be greatlyashamed; forthey shall notprosper: their everlastingconfusionshall neverbe forgotten. But, O LORDof hosts, that triestthe righteous, and seestthe reinsand the heart, let me seethy vengeanceonthem: foruntothee have I openedmy cause. Singunto the LORD, praiseye the LORD: forhe hath deliveredthe soulof the poorfrom the handof evildoers. Cursed be the daywhereinI was born: let notthe daywhereinmy motherboreme beblessed. Cursed be the manwhobrought tidingsto my father, saying, A manchildis bornunto thee; making him very glad. And let thatmanbeas the citieswhichthe LORDoverthrew, and repentednot: and let him hearthe cryin the morning, and the shoutingat noontide; Becausehe slewme notfrom the womb; or that my mothermight have beenmy grave, and her womb to be alwaysgreat with me . Whereforecame I forthout of the wombto seelaborand sorrow, that my daysshould be consumedwith shame?
