Whereforewill ye pleadwithme? ye allhave transgressedagainst me, saiththe LORD. In vainhave I smittenyour children; they receivednocorrection: your own swordhath devouredyour prophets, like a destroyinglion. O generation, seeyethe wordof the LORD. Have I beena wildernessunto Israel? a landof darkness? whereforesaymy people, We are lords; we will comenomoreuntothee? Can a maidforgether ornaments, or a brideher attire? yet my peoplehave forgottenme dayswithoutnumber. Whytrimmestthou thy wayto seeklove? thereforehast thou alsotaughtthe wicked onesthy ways. Alsoin thy skirtsis foundthe bloodof the soulsof the poorinnocents: I have notfoundit by secret search, butuponallthese. Yet thou sayest, BecauseI am innocent, surelyhis angershall turnfromme. Behold, I will plead withthee, becausethou sayest, I have notsinned. Whygaddestthou about so muchto changethy way? thou alsoshalt be ashamedof Egypt, asthou wast ashamedof Assyria. Yea, thou shalt go forthfromhim, and thine handsuponthine head: forthe LORDhath rejectedthy confidences, and thou shalt notprosperin them.
