The wordthatcametoJeremiahfromthe LORD, saying, Hearye the wordsof thiscovenant, and speakuntothe menof Judah, and tothe inhabitantsof Jerusalem; And saythou untothem, Thussaiththe LORDGodof Israel; Cursed be the manthatobeyethnotthe wordsof thiscovenant, WhichI commandedyour fathersin the day that I brought them forthout of the landof Egypt, from the ironfurnace, saying, Obeymy voice, and dothem, according to allwhichI commandyou: so shall ye bemy people, and Iwill beyour God: ThatI may performthe oathwhichI have swornunto your fathers, to givethem a landflowingwith milkand honey, as it is thisday. Then answeredI, and said, So be it, O LORD. Then the LORDsaiduntome, Proclaimallthesewordsin the citiesof Judah, and in the streetsof Jerusalem, saying, Hearye the wordsof thiscovenant, and dothem. ForI earnestly protestedunto your fathersin the day that I brought them upout of the landof Egypt, even untothisday, rising earlyand protesting, saying, Obeymy voice. Yet they obeyednot, norinclinedtheir ear, but walkedevery onein the imaginationof their evilheart: therefore I will bringuponthem allthe wordsof thiscovenant, whichI commanded them to do; but they did them not. And the LORDsaiduntome, A conspiracyis foundamong the menof Judah, and among the inhabitantsof Jerusalem. They are turned backtothe iniquitiesof their forefathers, whichrefusedto hearmy words; and theywentafterothergodsto servethem: the houseof Israeland the houseof Judahhave brokenmy covenantwhichI madewiththeir fathers. Thereforethussaiththe LORD, Behold, I will bringeviluponthem, whichthey shall notbe ableto escape; and though they shall cryuntome, I will nothearkenuntothem. Then shall the citiesof Judahand inhabitantsof Jerusalemgo, and cryuntothe godsunto whomtheyoffer incense: but they shall notsave them at allin the timeof their trouble. For according to the numberof thy citieswerethy gods, O Judah; and according to the numberof the streetsof Jerusalemhave ye set upaltarsto that shameful thing, even altarsto burn incenseunto Baal. Therefore praynotthouforthispeople, neitherlift upa cryor prayerforthem: forIwill nothear them in the timethat they cryuntome fortheir trouble. Whathath my belovedto do in mine house, seeing she hath wroughtlewdnesswith many, and the holyfleshis passedfromthee? whenthou doest evil, thenthou rejoicest. The LORDcalledthy name, A greenolive tree, fair, and of goodlyfruit: with the noiseof a greattumulthe hath kindledfireuponit, and the branchesof it are broken. For the LORDof hosts, that plantedthee, hath pronouncedevilagainstthee, forthe evilof the houseof Israeland of the houseof Judah, whichthey have doneagainst themselves to provoke me to angerin offering incenseunto Baal. And the LORDhath given me knowledge of it , and I know it : thenthou showedstme their doings. But I was like a lamb or an ox that is broughtto the slaughter; and I knewnotthatthey had deviseddevicesagainstme, saying , Let us destroythe treewith the fruitthereof, and let us cut him offfrom the landof the living, that his namemay be nomoreremembered. But, O LORDof hosts, that judgestrighteously, that triestthe reinsand the heart, let me seethy vengeanceonthem: foruntothee have I revealedmy cause. Thereforethussaiththe LORDofthe menof Anathoth, that seekthy life, saying, Prophesynotin the nameof the LORD, that thou dienotby our hand: Thereforethussaiththe LORDof hosts, Behold, I will punishthem: the young menshall dieby the sword; their sonsand their daughtersshall dieby famine: And there shall benoremnantof them: forI will bringeviluponthe menof Anathoth, even the yearof their visitation.
