Hearkentome, ye that follow afterrighteousness, ye that seekthe LORD: lookuntothe rock whence ye are hewn, and tothe holeof the pit whence ye are digged. LookuntoAbrahamyour father, and untoSarah that boreyou: forI calledhim alone, and blessedhim, and increasedhim. Forthe LORDshall comfortZion: he will comfortallher waste places; and he will makeher wildernesslike Eden, and her desertlike the gardenof the LORD; joyand gladnessshall be foundtherein, thanksgiving, and the voiceof melody. Hearkenuntome, my people; and give earuntome, O my nation: fora lawshall proceedfromme, and I will make my judgmentto restfor a lightof the people. My righteousness is near; my salvationis gone forth, and mine armsshall judgethe people; the islesshall waituponme, and onmine armshall they trust. Lift upyour eyesto the heavens, and lookuponthe earthbeneath: forthe heavensshall vanish awaylike smoke, and the earthshall wax oldlike a garment, and they that dwelltherein shall diein like manner: but my salvationshall beforever, and my righteousnessshall notbe abolished. Hearkenuntome, ye that knowrighteousness, the peoplein whose heart is my law; fearye notthe reproachof men, neitherbe ye afraidof their revilings. Forthe mothshall eat them uplike a garment, and the wormshall eatthem like wool: but my righteousnessshall beforever, and my salvationfrom generationto generation. Awake, awake, put onstrength, O armof the LORD; awake, as in the ancientdays, in the generationsof old. Art thounotitthat hath cutRahab, and woundedthe dragon? Art thounotitwhich hath driedthe sea, the watersof the greatdeep; that hath madethe depthsof the seaa wayfor the ransomedto pass over? Therefore the redeemedof the LORDshall return, and comewith singingunto Zion; and everlastingjoy shall be upontheir head: they shall obtaingladnessand joy; and sorrowand mourningshall flee away. I, even I, am hethat comfortethyou: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraidof a man that shall die, and of the sonof man which shall be made as grass; And forgettestthe LORDthy maker, that hath stretched forththe heavens, and laid the foundationsof the earth; and hast fearedcontinuallyeverydaybecauseof the furyof the oppressor, asif he were readyto destroy? and where is the furyof the oppressor? The captive exilehasteneththat he may be loosed, and that he should notdiein the pit, northat his breadshould fail. But I am the LORDthy God, that dividedthe sea, whose wavesroared: The LORDof hosts is his name. And I have putmy wordsin thy mouth, and I have coveredthee in the shadowof mine hand, that I may plantthe heavens, and lay the foundationsof the earth, and sayunto Zion, Thou art my people. Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, whichhast drunkat the handof the LORDthe cupof his fury; thou hast drunkenthe dregsof the cupof trembling, and wrung them out. There is noneto guideher among allthe sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that takethher by the handof allthe sons that she hath brought up. Thesetwo things are comeunto thee; whoshall be sorryfor thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whomshall I comfortthee? Thy sonshave fainted, they lieat the headof allthe streets, as a wild bullin a net: they are fullof the furyof the LORD, the rebukeof thy God. Thereforehearnowthis, thou afflicted, and drunken, but notwith wine: Thussaiththy Lordthe LORD, and thy God that pleadeth the causeof his people, Behold, I have takenout of thine handthe cupof trembling, even the dregsof the cupof my fury; thou shalt nomoredrinkit again: But I will putit into the handof them that afflictthee; whichhave saidto thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laidthy bodyas the ground, and as the street, to them that went over.
