So Ireturned, and consideredallthe oppressionsthatare doneunderthe sun: and beholdthe tearsof such as were oppressed, and they had nocomforter; and on the sideof their oppressors there was power; but they had nocomforter. Wherefore Ipraisedthe deadwhich are alreadydeadmore thanthe livingwhichare yetalive. Yea, better is he than boththey, whichhath notyetbeen, whohath notseenthe evilworkthatis doneunderthe sun. Again, Iconsideredalltravail, and everyrightwork, thatfor thisa manis enviedof his neighbor. This is alsovanityand vexationof spirit. The foolfoldeth his hands together, and eatethhis own flesh. Better is a handful with quietness, than both the handsfull with travailand vexationof spirit. Then Ireturned, and I sawvanityunderthe sun. There isone alone , and there is nota second; yea, he hath neitherchildnor brother: yet is there noendof allhis labor; neitheris his eyesatisfiedwith riches; neither saith he , For whomdo Ilabor, and bereavemy soulof good? This is alsovanity, yea, it is a soretravail. Two are betterthanone; becausethey havea goodrewardfor their labor. Forifthey fall, the onewill lift uphis fellow: but woeto him that is alonewhen he falleth; for he hath notanotherto help him up. Again, iftwolie together, then they have heat: but howcan onebe warm alone ? And ifoneprevail againsthim, twoshall withstandhim; and a threefoldcordis notquicklybroken. Better is a poorand a wisechildthan an oldand foolishking, whowillnomorebe admonished. Forout of prisonhe comethto reign; whereasalso he that is bornin his kingdombecometh poor. I consideredallthe livingwhich walkunderthe sun, withthe secondchildthatshall stand upin his stead. There is noendof allthe people, even of allthathave beenbeforethem: they alsothat come aftershall notrejoicein him. Surelythisalso is vanityand vexationof spirit.
