My son, ifthou be suretyfor thy friend, if thou hast strickenthy handwith a stranger, Thou art snaredwith the wordsof thy mouth, thou art takenwith the wordsof thy mouth. Dothisnow, my son, and deliver thyself, whenthou art comeinto the handof thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make surethy friend. Givenotsleepto thine eyes, nor slumberto thine eyelids. Deliver thyselfas a roefrom the hand of the hunter , and as a birdfrom the handof the fowler. Gotothe ant, thou sluggard; considerher ways, and be wise: Whichhaving noguide, overseer, or ruler, Providethher meatin the summer, and gatherethher foodin the harvest. How longwilt thou sleep, O sluggard? whenwilt thou ariseout of thy sleep? Yet a littlesleep, a littleslumber, a littlefoldingof the handsto sleep: So shall thy povertycomeas one that traveleth, and thy wantas an armedman. A naughtyperson, a wickedman, walkethwith a frowardmouth. He winkethwith his eyes, he speakethwith his feet, he teachethwith his fingers; Frowardness is in his heart, he devisethmischiefcontinually; he sowethdiscord. Thereforeshall his calamitycomesuddenly; suddenlyshall he be brokenwithoutremedy. Thesesix things doth the LORDhate: yea, seven are an abominationunto him: A proudlook, a lyingtongue, and handsthat shedinnocentblood, A heartthat devisethwickedimaginations, feetthat be swiftin runningto mischief, A falsewitness that speakethlies, and he that sowethdiscordamongbrethren. My son, keepthy father's commandment, and forsakenotthe lawof thy mother: Bindthem continuallyuponthine heart, and tiethem aboutthy neck. When thou goest, it shall leadthee; when thou sleepest, it shall keepthee; and when thou awakest, itshall talkwith thee. Forthe commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofsof instruction are the wayof life: To keepthee from the evilwoman, from the flatteryof the tongueof a strange woman. Lustnotafter her beautyin thine heart; neitherlet her takethee with her eyelids. Forby meansof a whorishwoman a man is brought toa pieceof bread: and the adulteresswill huntfor the preciouslife. Can a mantakefirein his bosom, and his clothesnotbe burned? Canonegouponhot coals, and his feetnotbe burned? Sohe that goeth intohis neighbor's wife; whosoevertouchethher shall notbe innocent. Men do notdespisea thief, ifhe stealto satisfyhis soulwhenhe is hungry; But if he be found, he shall restoresevenfold; he shall giveallthe substanceof his house. But whoso committeth adulterywith a womanlackethunderstanding: he that doethit destroyethhis own soul. A woundand dishonorshall he get; and his reproachshall notbe wiped away. Forjealousy is the rageof a man: therefore he will notsparein the dayof vengeance. He will notregardanyransom; neitherwill he rest content, thoughthou givest manygifts.
