The wordsof Agurthe sonof Jakeh, even the prophecy: the manspokeunto Ithiel, even unto Ithieland Ucal, SurelyI am more brutishthan any man, and have notthe understandingof a man. I neitherlearnedwisdom, nor havethe knowledgeof the holy. Whohath ascended upinto heaven, or descended? whohath gatheredthe windin his fists? whohath boundthe watersin a garment? whohath establishedallthe endsof the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, ifif thou canst tell? Everywordof God is pure: he is a shieldunto them that put their trustin him. Addthou notuntohis words, lesthe reprovethee, and thou be found a liar. Two things have I requiredofthee; denyme them notbeforeI die: Remove farfromme vanityand lies: giveme neitherpovertynor riches; feedme with foodconvenientfor me: LestI be full, and deny thee , and say, Who is the LORD? or lestI be poor, and steal, and takethe nameof my God in vain . Accusenota servantuntohis master, lesthe cursethee, and thou be found guilty. There is a generation that curseththeir father, and doth notblesstheir mother. There is a generation that are purein their own eyes, and yet is notwashedfrom their filthiness. There is a generation, O howloftyare their eyes! and their eyelidsare lifted up. The eye that mockethat his father, and despisethto obey his mother, the ravensof the valleyshall pick it out, and the youngeaglesshall eatit. There be three things which are too wonderfulforme, yea, fourwhich I knownot: The wayof an eaglein the air; the wayof a serpentupona rock; the wayof a shipin the midstof the sea; and the wayof a manwith a maid. Such is the wayof an adulterouswoman; she eateth, and wipethher mouth, and saith, I have donenowickedness. Forthree things the earthis disquieted, and forfour which it cannotbear: Fora servantwhenhe reigneth; and a foolwhenhe is filledwith meat; Foran odious woman whenshe is married; and a handmaidthatis heirto her mistress. There be four things which are littleupon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a peoplenotstrong, yet they preparetheir meatin the summer; The conies are but a feeblefolk, yet makethey their housesin the rocks; The locustshave noking, yet go they forthallof them by bands; The spidertaketh holdwith her hands, and is in kings' palaces. There be three things which gowell, yea, fourare comelyin going: A lion which is strongestamong beasts, and turneth not awayforany; A greyhound; a he goatalso; and a king, againstwhom there is norising up. Ifthou hast done foolishlyin lifting up thyself, or ifthou hast thought evil, lay thine handupon thy mouth. Surelythe churningof milkbringeth forthbutter, and the wringingof the nosebringeth forthblood: so the forcingof wrathbringeth forthstrife.
