The proverbsof Solomonthe sonof David, kingof Israel; To knowwisdomand instruction; to perceivethe wordsof understanding; To receivethe instructionof wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To givesubtletyto the simple, to the young manknowledgeand discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increaselearning; and a man of understandingshall attainunto wise counsels: To understanda proverb, and the interpretation; the wordsof the wise, and their dark sayings. The fearof the LORD is the beginningof knowledge: but foolsdespisewisdomand instruction. My son, hearthe instructionof thy father, and forsakenotthe lawof thy mother: Forthey shall be an ornamentof graceunto thy head, and chainsabout thy neck. My son, ifsinnersenticethee, consentthou not. Ifthey say, Comewithus, let us lay waitfor blood, let us lurk privilyfor the innocentwithout cause: Let us swallow them upaliveas the grave; and whole, as those that go downinto the pit: We shall findallprecioussubstance, we shall fillour houseswith spoil: Cast inthy lotamongus; let us allhaveonepurse: My son, walknotthou in the waywiththem; refrainthy footfrom their path: Fortheir feetrunto evil, and make hasteto shedblood. Surelyin vainthe netis spreadin the sightof anybird. And theylay waitfor their own blood; they lurk privilyfor their own lives. So are the waysof every onethat is greedyof gain; which taketh awaythe lifeof the ownersthereof. Wisdomcriethwithout; she utterethher voicein the streets: She criethin the chiefplace of concourse, in the openingsof the gates: in the cityshe utterethher words, saying , How long, ye simple ones, will ye lovesimplicity? and the scornersdelightin their scorning, and foolshateknowledge? Turnyou at my reproof: behold, I will pour outmy spiritunto you, I will make knownmy wordsunto you. BecauseI have called, and ye refused; I have stretched outmy hand, and no manregarded; But ye have set at naughtallmy counsel, and wouldnoneof my reproof: Ialsowill laughat your calamity; I will mockwhen your fearcometh; When your fearcomethas desolation, and your destructioncomethas a whirlwind; when distressand anguishcomethuponyou. Thenshall they call uponme, but I will notanswer; they shall seek me early, but they shall notfindme: For thatthey hatedknowledge, and did notchoosethe fearof the LORD: They wouldnoneof my counsel: they despisedallmy reproof. Therefore shall they eatof the fruitof their own way, and be filledwith their own devices. Forthe turning awayof the simpleshall slaythem, and the prosperityof foolsshall destroythem. But whoso hearkenethunto me shall dwellsafely, and shall be quietfrom fearof evil.
