And there wenta manof the houseof Levi, and took to wife a daughterof Levi. And the womanconceived, and borea son: and when she sawhim thathe was a goodly child , she hidhim threemonths. And when she couldnotlongerhidehim, she tookfor him an arkof bulrushes, and daubedit with slimeand with pitch, and putthe childtherein; and she laid it in the flagsbythe river's brink. And his sisterstoodafar off, to knowwhatwould be doneto him. And the daughterof Pharaohcame downto wash herself atthe river; and her maidenswalked alongbythe river's side; and when she sawthe arkamongthe flags, she senther maidto fetchit. And when she had opened it , she sawthe child: and, behold, the babewept. And she had compassiononhim, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children. Then saidhis sistertoPharaoh's daughter, Shall I goand callto thee a nurseofthe Hebrew women, that she may nursethe childfor thee? And Pharaoh's daughtersaidto her, Go. And the maidwentand calledthe child's mother. And Pharaoh's daughtersaidunto her, Take this child away, and nurseit for me, and Iwill give thee thy wages. And the womantookthe child, and nursedit. And the childgrew, and she broughthim unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he becameher son. And she calledhis nameMoses: and she said, BecauseI drewhim out ofthe water. And it came to passin thosedays, when Moseswas grown, that he went outuntohis brethren, and lookedon their burdens: and he spiedan Egyptiansmitinga Hebrew, one of his brethren. And he lookedthis wayand that way, and when he sawthat there was noman, he slewthe Egyptian, and hidhim in the sand. And when he went outthe secondday, behold, twomenof the Hebrewsstrove together: and he saidto him that did the wrong, Whereforesmitestthou thy fellow? And he said, Whomadethee a princeand a judgeoverus? intendestthouto killme, asthou killedstthe Egyptian? And Mosesfeared, and said, Surelythis thingis known. Now when Pharaohheardthisthing, he soughtto slayMoses. But Mosesfledfrom the faceof Pharaoh, and dweltin the landof Midian: and he sat downbya well. Now the priestof Midianhad sevendaughters: and they cameand drew water , and filledthe troughsto watertheir father's flock. And the shepherdscameand drove them away: but Mosesstood upand helpedthem, and wateredtheir flock. And when they cametoReueltheir father, he said, How is it that ye are comeso soontoday? And they said, An Egyptiandeliveredus out of the handof the shepherds, and alsodrew water enoughfor us, and wateredthe flock. And he saiduntohis daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have leftthe man? callhim, that he may eatbread. And Moseswas contentto dwellwiththe man: and he gaveMosesZipporahhis daughter. And she bore him a son, and he calledhis nameGershom: forhe said, I have beena strangerin a strangeland. And it came to passin process of time, that the kingof Egyptdied: and the childrenof Israelsighedby reason ofthe bondage, and they cried, and their crycame upuntoGodby reason ofthe bondage. And Godheardtheir groaning, and Godrememberedhis covenantwithAbraham, withIsaac, and withJacob. And Godlooked uponthe childrenof Israel, and Godhad respectunto them .
