To the chief MusicianuponShoshannim-eduth, A Psalmof Asaph. Give ear, O Shepherdof Israel, thou that leadestJosephlike a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth. BeforeEphraimand Benjaminand Manassehstir upthy strength, and come and saveus. Turn us again, O God, and cause thy faceto shine; and we shall be saved. O LORDGodof hosts, how longwilt thou be angryagainst the prayerof thy people? Thou feedestthem with the breadof tears; and givest them tearsto drinkin great measure. Thou makestus a strifeunto our neighbors: and our enemieslaughamong themselves. Turn us again, O Godof hosts, and cause thy faceto shine; and we shall be saved. Thou hast broughta vineout of Egypt: thou hast cast outthe heathen, and plantedit. Thou preparedst room beforeit, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filledthe land. The hillswere coveredwith the shadowof it, and the boughsthereof were like the goodlycedars. She sent outher boughsuntothe sea, and her branchesuntothe river. Whyhast thou then broken downher hedges, so that allthey which pass bythe waydo pluckher? The boarout of the wooddoth wasteit, and the wild beastof the fielddoth devourit. Return, we beseechthee, O Godof hosts: look downfrom heaven, and behold, and visitthisvine; And the vineyardwhichthy right handhath planted, and the branch that thou madest strongfor thyself. It is burnedwith fire, it is cut down: they perishat the rebukeof thy countenance. Let thy handbeuponthe manof thy right hand, uponthe sonof man whom thou madest strongfor thyself. So will notwe go backfromthee: quickenus, and we will callupon thy name. Turn us again, O LORDGodof hosts, cause thy faceto shine; and we shall be saved.
