To the chief MusicianuponShoshannim, A Psalm of David. Saveme, O God; forthe watersare come inunto my soul. I sinkin deepmire, where there is nostanding: I am comeinto deepwaters, where the floodsoverflowme. I am wearyof my crying: my throatis dried: mine eyesfailwhile I waitfor my God. They that hateme without a causeare morethan the hairsof mine head: they that would destroyme, being mine enemieswrongfully, are mighty: thenI restored that whichI took not away. O God, thouknowestmy foolishness; and my sinsare nothidfromthee. Let notthem that wait onthee, O LordGODof hosts, be ashamedfor my sake: let notthose that seekthee be confoundedfor my sake, O Godof Israel. Becausefor thy sakeI have bornereproach; shamehath coveredmy face. I am becomea strangerunto my brethren, and an alienunto my mother's children. Forthe zealof thine househath eaten me up; and the reproachesof them that reproachedthee are fallenuponme. When I wept, and chastened my soulwith fasting, that wasto my reproach. I madesackclothalso my garment; and I becamea proverbto them. They that sitin the gatespeakagainst me; and I was the songof the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptabletime: O God, in the multitudeof thy mercyhearme, in the truthof thy salvation. Deliverme out of the mire, and let me notsink: let me be deliveredfrom them that hateme, and out of the deepwaters. Let notthe waterfloodoverflowme, neitherlet the deepswallow me up, and let notthe pitshuther mouthuponme. Hearme, O LORD; forthy lovingkindness is good: turnuntome according to the multitudeof thy tender mercies. And hidenotthy facefrom thy servant; forI am in trouble: hearme speedily. Draw nighuntomy soul, and redeemit: deliverme because ofmine enemies. Thouhast knownmy reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: mine adversaries are allbeforethee. Reproachhath brokenmy heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I foundnone. They gaveme also gallfor my meat; and in my thirstthey gave me vinegarto drink. Let their tablebecomea snarebeforethem: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Let their eyesbe darkened, that they see not; and make their loinscontinuallyto shake. Pour outthine indignationuponthem, and let thy wrathfulangertake holdof them. Let their habitationbedesolate; and letnonedwellin their tents. Forthey persecute him whomthouhast smitten; and they talktothe griefof those whom thou hast wounded. Addiniquityuntotheir iniquity: and let them notcomeinto thy righteousness. Let them be blottedout of the bookof the living, and notbe writtenwiththe righteous. But I am poorand sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praisethe nameof Godwith a song, and will magnifyhim with thanksgiving. This also shall pleasethe LORDbetter than an ox or bullockthat hath hornsand hooves. The humbleshall see this, and be glad: and your heartshall livethat seekGod. Forthe LORDheareththe poor, and despisethnothis prisoners. Let the heavenand earthpraisehim, the seas, and every thingthat moveththerein. ForGodwill saveZion, and will buildthe citiesof Judah: that they may dwellthere, and have it in possession. The seedalso of his servantsshall inheritit: and they that lovehis nameshall dwelltherein.
