To the chief Musician, A Psalmof David, when Nathanthe prophetcameuntohim, afterhe had gone intoBathsheba. Have mercyupon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitudeof thy tender merciesblot outmy transgressions. Washme throughlyfrom mine iniquity, and cleanseme from my sin. ForIacknowledgemy transgressions: and my sin is everbeforeme. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evilin thy sight: thatthou mightest be justifiedwhen thou speakest, and be clearwhen thou judgest. Behold, I was shapenin iniquity; and in sindid my motherconceiveme. Behold, thou desiresttruthin the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to knowwisdom. Purgeme with hyssop, and I shall be clean: washme, and I shall be whiterthan snow. Make me to hearjoyand gladness; that the bones which thou hast brokenmay rejoice. Hidethy facefrom my sins, and blot outallmine iniquities. Createin me a cleanheart, O God; and renewa rightspiritwithinme. Castme notaway from thy presence; and takenotthy holyspiritfromme. Restoreunto me the joyof thy salvation; and upholdme with thy freespirit. Then will I teachtransgressorsthy ways; and sinnersshall be converteduntothee. Deliverme from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou Godof my salvation: and my tongueshall sing aloudof thy righteousness. O Lord, openthou my lips; and my mouthshall show forththy praise. Forthou desirestnotsacrifice; else would I give it : thou delightestnotin burnt offering. The sacrificesof God are a brokenspirit: a brokenand a contriteheart, O God, thou wilt notdespise. Do goodin thy good pleasureunto Zion: buildthou the wallsof Jerusalem. Thenshalt thou be pleasedwith the sacrificesof righteousness, with burnt offeringand whole burnt offering: thenshall they offerbullocksuponthine altar.
