To the chief Musician, A Psalmof David. Holdnotthy peace, O Godof my praise; Forthe mouthof the wickedand the mouthof the deceitfulare openedagainstme: they have spokenagainstme with a lyingtongue. They compassed me aboutalso with wordsof hatred; and fought againstme without a cause. Formy lovethey are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer. And they have rewardedme evilforgood, and hatredformy love. Setthou a wicked manoverhim: and let Satanstandathis right hand. When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and lethis prayerbecomesin. Let his daysbefew; and let anothertakehis office. Let his childrenbefatherless, and his wifea widow. Let his childrenbe continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. Let the extortionercatchallthathe hath; and let the strangersspoilhis labor. Let there benoneto extendmercyunto him: neitherlet there beany to favorhis fatherless children. Let his posteritybecut off; and in the generationfollowinglet their namebe blotted out. Let the iniquityof his fathersbe rememberedwiththe LORD; and let notthe sinof his motherbe blotted out. Let them bebeforethe LORDcontinually, that he may cut offthe memoryof them from the earth. Becausethathe rememberednotto showmercy, but persecutedthe poorand needyman, that he might even slaythe brokenin heart. As he lovedcursing, so let it comeunto him: as he delightednotin blessing, so let it be farfromhim. As he clothedhimself with cursinglike as with his garment, so let it comeinto his bowelslike water, and like oilinto his bones. Let it beunto him as the garment which coverethhim, and for a girdlewherewith he is girdedcontinually. Let this be the rewardof mine adversariesfromthe LORD, and of them that speakevilagainstmy soul. But dothouforme, O GODthe Lord, for thy name's sake: becausethy mercy is good, deliverthou me. ForI am poorand needy, and my heartis woundedwithinme. I am gonelike the shadowwhen it declineth: I am tossed up and downas the locust. My kneesare weakthrough fasting; and my fleshfailethof fatness. Ibecamealso a reproachunto them: when they looked uponme they shakedtheir heads. Helpme, O LORDmy God: O saveme according to thy mercy: Thatthey may knowthat this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast doneit. Let themcurse, but blessthou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servantrejoice. Let mine adversariesbe clothedwith shame, and let them coverthemselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. I will greatlypraisethe LORDwith my mouth; yea, I will praisehim amongthe multitude. Forhe shall standat the right handof the poor, to save him from those that condemnhis soul.
