Again there wasa daywhen the sonsof Godcameto present themselvesbeforethe LORD, and Satancamealsoamongthem to present himselfbeforethe LORD. And the LORDsaiduntoSatan, From whencecomestthou? And Satanansweredthe LORD, and said, From going to and froin the earth, and from walking up and downin it. And the LORDsaiduntoSatan, Hast thou consideredmy servantJob, that there is nonelike himin the earth, a perfectand an uprightman, one that fearethGod, and eschewethevil? and stillhe holdeth fasthis integrity, although thou movedstme against him, to destroyhim without cause. And Satanansweredthe LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, allthata manhath will he giveforhis life. Butput forththine handnow, and touchhis boneand his flesh, andhe will cursethee tothy face. And the LORDsaiduntoSatan, Behold, he is in thine hand; butsavehis life. So went Satan forthfromthe presenceof the LORD, and smoteJobwith soreboilsfrom the soleof his footuntohis crown. And he tookhim a potsherdto scrape himselfwithal; and hesat downamongthe ashes. Then saidhis wifeunto him, Dost thou stillretainthine integrity? curseGod, and die. But he saiduntoher, Thou speakestas oneof the foolish womenspeaketh. What? shall we receivegoodat the handof God, and shall we notreceiveevil? In allthisdid notJobsinwith his lips. Now when Job's threefriendsheardof allthisevilthat was comeuponhim, they cameevery onefrom his own place; Eliphazthe Temanite, and Bildadthe Shuhite, and Zopharthe Naamathite: for they had made an appointmenttogetherto cometo mournwith him and to comforthim. And when they lifted uptheir eyesafar off, and knewhim not, they lifted uptheir voice, and wept; and they rentevery onehis mantle, and sprinkleddustupontheir headstoward heaven. So they sat downwithhim upon the groundsevendaysand sevennights, and nonespokea worduntohim: forthey sawthat his griefwas very great.
