Then Jobansweredand said, I have heardmanysuch things: miserablecomforters are ye all. Shall vainwordshave an end? orwhatemboldeneththee thatthou answerest? Ialsocould speakas ye do : ifyour soulwerein my soul's stead, I could heap upwordsagainstyou, and shakemineheadatyou. But I would strengthenyou withmy mouth, and the movingof my lipsshould assuage your grief . ThoughI speak, my griefis notassuaged: and though I forbear, whatam I eased? Butnowhe hath made me weary: thou hast made desolateallmy company. And thou hast filled me with wrath, which isa witness against me : and my leannessrising upin me beareth witnessto my face. He teareth me in his wrath, who hatethme: he gnashethuponme with his teeth; mine enemysharpenethhis eyesupon me. They have gapeduponme with their mouth; they have smittenme upon the cheekreproachfully; they have gathered themselvestogetheragainstme. Godhath deliveredme tothe ungodly, and turned me overintothe handsof the wicked. I wasat ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me upfor his mark. His archerscompass me round about, he cleavethmy reinsasunder, and doth notspare; he poureth outmy gallupon the ground. He breakethme with breachuponbreach, he runnethuponme like a giant. I have sewedsackclothuponmy skin, and defiledmy hornin the dust. My faceis foulwithweeping, and onmy eyelids is the shadow of death; Notfor any injusticein mine hands: also my prayer is pure. O earth, covernotthou my blood, and let my cryhavenoplace. Alsonow, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high. My friendsscornme: but mine eyepoureth out tears untoGod. O that one might pleadfor a manwithGod, as a man pleadeth for his neighbor! Whena fewyearsare come, then I shall gothe way whence I shall notreturn.
