When Mordecaiperceivedallthatwas done, Mordecairenthis clothes, and put onsackclothwith ashes, and went outinto the midstof the city, and criedwith a loudand a bittercry; And cameevenbeforethe king's gate: fornone might enterintothe king's gateclothedwith sackcloth. And in everyprovince, whithersoeverthe king's commandmentand his decreecame, there was greatmourningamong the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and manylayin sackclothand ashes. So Esther's maidsand her chamberlainscameand told it her. Then was the queenexceedinglygrieved; and she sentraimentto clotheMordecai, and to take awayhis sackclothfromhim: but he received it not. Then calledEstherfor Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whomhe had appointedto attend uponher, and gave him a commandmentoMordecai, to knowwhatit was , and whyit was . So Hatachwent forthtoMordecaiuntothe streetof the city, which was beforethe king's gate. And Mordecaitoldhim of allthathad happenedunto him, andof the sumof the moneythatHamanhad promisedto paytothe king's treasuriesfor the Jews, to destroythem. Also he gavehim the copyof the writingof the decreethatwas givenat Shushanto destroythem, to show it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to chargeherthat she should go inuntothe king, to make supplicationunto him, and to make requestbeforehim forher people. And Hatachcameand toldEstherthe wordsof Mordecai. Again Estherspokeunto Hatach, and gave him commandmentuntoMordecai; Allthe king's servants, and the peopleof the king's provinces, do know, thatwhosoever, whethermanor woman, shall comeuntothe kingintothe innercourt, whois notcalled, there is onelawof his to put him to death, exceptsuch to whomthe kingshall hold outthe goldenscepter, that he may live: but Ihave notbeen calledto come inuntothe kingthesethirtydays. And they toldto MordecaiEsther's words. Then Mordecaicommandedto answerEsther, Thinknotwith thyselfthat thou shalt escapein the king's house, more than allthe Jews. Forifthou altogether holdest thy peaceat thistime, then shall there enlargementand deliveranceariseto the Jewsfrom another place; but thouand thy father's houseshall be destroyed: and whoknowethwhetherthou art cometo the kingdomfor such a timeas this? Then Estherbade them returnMordecai this answer , Go, gather togetherallthe Jewsthat are presentin Shushan, and fastye forme, and neithereatnordrinkthreedays, nightor day: Ialsoand my maidenswill fastlikewise; and sowill I go inuntothe king, which is notaccording to the law: and ifI perish, I perish. So Mordecaiwent his way, and didaccording to allthatEstherhad commandedhim.
