These were the chiefof the priestsand of their brethrenin the daysof Jeshua. Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, which was overthe thanksgiving, heand his brethren. Also Bakbukiahand Unni, their brethren, were over againstthem in the watches. And JeshuabegotJoiakim, Joiakimalso begotEliashib, and EliashibbegotJoiada, And JoiadabegotJonathan, and JonathanbegotJaddua. And in the daysof Joiakimwerepriests, the chiefof the fathers: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah; Of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan; Of Melicu, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph; Of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai; Of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam; Of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai; Of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan; And of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi; Of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber; Of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; of Jedaiah, Nethaneel. The Levitesin the daysof Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were recordedchiefof the fathers: also the priests, tothe reignof Dariusthe Persian. The sonsof Levi, the chiefof the fathers, were writteninthe bookof the chronicles, even untilthe daysof Johananthe sonof Eliashib. And the chiefof the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshuathe sonof Kadmiel, with their brethrenover againstthem, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandmentof Davidthe manof God, wardover againstward. Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were porterskeepingthe wardat the thresholdsof the gates. These were in the daysof Joiakimthe sonof Jeshua, the sonof Jozadak, and in the daysof Nehemiahthe governor, and of Ezrathe priest, the scribe. And at the dedicationof the wallof Jerusalemthey soughtthe Levitesout of alltheir places, to bringthem to Jerusalem, to keepthe dedicationwith gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. And the sonsof the singersgathered themselves together, both out ofthe plain countryround aboutJerusalem, and fromthe villagesof Netophathi; Also from the houseof Gilgal, and out of the fieldsof Gebaand Azmaveth: forthe singershad builtthem villagesround aboutJerusalem. And the priestsand the Levitespurified themselves, and purifiedthe people, and the gates, and the wall. Then I brought upthe princesof Judahuponthe wall, and appointedtwogreat companies of them that gave thanks, whereof onewenton the right handuponthe walltoward the dunggate: And afterthem wentHoshaiah, and halfof the princesof Judah, And Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam, Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah, And certain of the priests' sonswith trumpets; namely , Zechariahthe sonof Jonathan, the sonof Shemaiah, the sonof Mattaniah, the sonof Michaiah, the sonof Zaccur, the sonof Asaph: And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musicalinstrumentsof Davidthe manof God, and Ezrathe scribebeforethem. And atthe fountaingate, which was over againstthem, they went upbythe stairsof the cityof David, at the going upof the wall, abovethe houseof David, even untothe watergateeastward. And the other company of them that gave thankswentover against them , and Iafterthem, and the halfof the peopleuponthe wall, from beyondthe towerof the furnaceseven untothe broadwall; And from abovethe gateof Ephraim, and abovethe oldgate, and abovethe fishgate, and the towerof Hananeel, and the towerof Meah, even untothe sheepgate: and they stood stillin the prisongate. So stoodthe two companies of them that gave thanksin the houseof God, and I, and the halfof the rulerswithme: And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets; And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singerssang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer. Also thatdaythey offeredgreatsacrifices, and rejoiced: forGodhad made them rejoicewith greatjoy: the wivesalsoand the childrenrejoiced: so that the joyof Jerusalemwas heardeven afar off. And at thattimewere someappointedoverthe chambersfor the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gatherinto them out of the fieldsof the citiesthe portionsof the lawfor the priestsand Levites: forJudahrejoicedforthe priestsand forthe Levitesthat waited. And both the singersand the porterskeptthe wardof their God, and the wardof the purification, according to the commandmentof David, and of Solomonhis son. Forin the daysof Davidand Asaphof old there were chiefof the singers, and songsof praiseand thanksgivingunto God. And allIsraelin the daysof Zerubbabel, and in the daysof Nehemiah, gavethe portionsof the singersand the porters, every dayhis portion: and they sanctified holy things unto the Levites; and the Levitessanctified them unto the childrenof Aaron.
