And they setthe altaruponhis bases; forfear was uponthem because of the peopleof those countries: and they offeredburnt offeringsthereonunto the LORD, even burnt offeringsmorningand evening. They keptalso the feastof tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the dailyburnt offeringsby number, according to the custom, as the dutyof every dayrequired; And afterward offered the continualburnt offering, both of the new moons, and of allthe set feastsof the LORDthat were consecrated, and of every onethat willingly offereda freewill offeringunto the LORD. From the first dayof the seventhmonthbeganthey to offerburnt offeringsunto the LORD. But the foundationof the templeof the LORDwas not yet laid. They gavemoneyalso unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bringcedartreesfromLebanontothe seaof Joppa, according to the grantthat they had of Cyruskingof Persia. Now in the secondyearof their cominguntothe houseof Godat Jerusalem, in the secondmonth, beganZerubbabelthe sonof Shealtiel, and Jeshuathe sonof Jozadak, and the remnantof their brethrenthe priestsand the Levites, and allthey that were comeout of the captivityunto Jerusalem; and appointedthe Levites, from twenty years oldand upward, to setforwardthe workof the houseof the LORD. Then stoodJeshua with his sonsand his brethren, Kadmieland his sons, the sonsof Judah, together, to setforwardthe workmenin the houseof God: the sonsof Henadad, with their sonsand their brethrenthe Levites. And when the builderslaid the foundationof the templeof the LORD, they setthe priestsin their apparelwith trumpets, and the Levitesthe sonsof Asaphwith cymbals, to praisethe LORD, afterthe ordinanceof Davidkingof Israel. And they sang together by coursein praisingand giving thanksunto the LORD; because he is good, forhis mercy endureth forevertowardIsrael. And allthe peopleshoutedwith a greatshout, when they praisedthe LORD, becausethe foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. But manyof the priestsand Levitesand chiefof the fathers, who were ancient men, thathad seenthe firsthouse, when the foundation of this house was laidbefore their eyes, weptwith a loudvoice; and manyshouted aloudfor joy: So that the peoplecould notdiscernthe noiseof the shoutof joyfrom the noiseof the weepingof the people: forthe peopleshoutedwith a loudshout, and the noisewas heardafar off.
